I haven't gotten any notices of that type (yet), but I have maxed out my NNTP xfer amount with Speakeasy quite often lately. What am I downloading? Why, TV shows, of course! I don't currently have enough $ for both my DSL connection & a decent TV service, so I'm relying on through the air broadcast for my TV viewing habits. Which, unfortunately, doesn't work too well for me where I'm at. So, I download the eps I miss off of UseNet. Many of these are straight digital sat feed recordings, too, and many are even from areas where they're broadcast before I could've watched them here. Neato. So, I just got down downloading the widescreen PAL version of 7x12 & 7x13 of Stargate SG-1. Nifty. But also quite bandwidth intensive. I blew right past a gigabyte yesterday just downloading those two things.:( I also download Angel, Enterprise, and other shows, so yeah, I chew through a lot of bandwidth on a weekly basis. If I could find them via a non-UseNet source, I'd be much happier, though I may run into that excessive use policy if I do.:)
Broadband is mainly marketed as FASTER, not as 'unlimited downloaded bits available'.
There's a difference between speed & bandwidth consumed, and that's the sticky point - since your ISP has to pay for bandwidth consumed, so should you. Right?
Okay, so "back in the day" (Amiga!), I got this really spiffy new floppy disk copying program, and decided that would be a good time to make backups of all my floppies (no HD back then). So I fired up the new copying program, and made backups of all my floppies.
Unfortunately, I hadn't taken quiiiiiite enough time to learn how this new copy program worked - it LOOKED pretty easy to use, but, well...no.
Instead of making backups of all my floppies, it had reformatted each of the floppies I put in to make backups OF, and formatted the 'copies' I thought I was making, thus wiping out my entire floppy collection.
That's almost as amazing as finding one's "hand twin!" I know I'd pay good money to see twin stars showcased in some type of entertainment venue. Gosh.
What I want: an mp3/aac/ogg player that has a nice (as in many characters) backlit display, easy controls, has a good FM tuner, and for storage - nothing but a CF (type II if possible) slot. I'll supply the storage, thanks.
Oh, also, FW400 & USB2.0 ('hi-speed') interfaces. Oh, and the ability to use it as portable storage, like the iPod. Voice recording & the ability to record from the FM tuner would be nice, too, whilst I'm dreaming.

Nah, it'll be a true science when you can install nitrous boost. I can see the movie now, "Too Equine, Too Furious!" I just hope it doesn't star Edward Furlong, or anyone named Ed. (of course)

Laughing when one of Jerry Pournelle's lackeys calls for help AGAIN = priceless.
("No, sir, being one of "Jerry's kids" doesn't get you a special tech support number to call." Ugh.)

Yes, such a huge percentage of Mac sales, I'm sure. Also, 'MS Office' file formats don't always necessitate.doc - you can use.rtf just fine with most things, and the importer/exporter features of many MS Office competitors work just fine for the vast majority of files.
I say that Apple should learn their lesson from IBM and OS/2 - don't go for a 'compatible' solution - go for an ALTERNATIVE solution. Ditch MS and go your own way! OS/2's biggest problem was trying to work WITH Windows, and it killed them. Noone wanted to make OS/2-native software when OS/2 could run Windows software. Why have crappy MS software for the Mac when it doesn't gain them any noticable marketshare?
Yeah, and look how it 'devastated' the Mac community.:) I'd say MS needs Apple more than the other way around - I've heard the Mac business unit at MS is among the most profitable, compared to how much they spend on development. Probably a lot less piracy going on in Mac-land.
Okay, set up a site for potential spammers to buy one of these CDs. Require they give correct contact information to purchase.
Once lots of them have purchased, send out the CDs with the list of people who purchased the CD.

I think some of these things are ideas by someone who doesn't understand technology. Check this one out:
12 Make email addresses portable
Yeah, whatever. I've taken my email address with me through several ISPs. Are they suggesting something stupid like taking your @aol.com address with you to some other ISP? Ugh. There's so many things wrong with that one I won't even bother listing them.
Many of the ideas contradict each other, also, which is interesting.

D-Link is what I'd recommend. They, like other Aetheros (sp?) -based equipment, has 'turbo-g' mode at double the normal rate of 54mbps. Just as long as you aren't within interference range of another turbo-g network, of course.:)
Ahh...job security. :)
Maybe I can meet Delux_247 if I go! :)
Just as you shouldn't live in a desert, or in a flood plain, you shouldn't live where there's no broadband access. It's just that simple. :)
