Don't worry, it's all my personal opinion and pujre conjecture at that. Still, without facts all we can do is speculate. I like to speculate, that's my sin ;)

The reason I brought up Reiser is to underline the point that people can be 'bad' and 'good' at the same time.

In the case of Reiser there were many of us who refused to believe he was guilty until he produced the body for a lighter sentence.

Especially people who like to stand in the limelight are not seldom narcissistic. Narcissist people can do weird things which seem out of character, but actually are not.

I'm not saying Assange is a narcissist, I'm just trying to think of a scenario in which both things I know of him fit: The slightly megalomanic way he runs the leaks site and the possible rape and abuse of these women. I'd say there is a possible scenario.

Other people say the CIA conspiracy theory is more likely. I disagree, respectfully, of course...

OTOH, this has to be proven first. I find it highly unlikely that these accusations have been fabricated to damage wikileaks. That would be much too obvious in such a case.

You miss the point. For many conditions a placebo is not a nonworking therapy. So if it works you're not a liar. And placebo treatments do work 30-40% of the time for certain problems. You're only a liar if you make claims about the treatment that aren't true.

Mmm, yes, that's exactly my point. Thank you for pointing that out ;)

The drug companies probably hate the placebo effect - a fair number of their candidate drugs can barely beat it in trials :).

Again you seem to mean the opposite. If the drugs aren't doing better than placebo's, they are placebo's!

You can't claim that a non-working therapy works unless you a a liar.
The placebo effect works better if the treatment is costly (in terms of money or discomfort - pain from needles)

So the placebo industry can only exist if they mislead and overcharge.

AFAIK there's an even bigger problem with wind. To be able to use wind power you need to have backup power and Nuclear plants aren't good for that. A backup plant for a wind power facility must have the ability to produce power really fast to make up for variations in the wind speed (when the wind gets too strong the windmills must be shut down). Obviously coal plants aren't good for that either. You need relatively gas turbine plants which produce expensive electricity and - of course - expell CO2. This makes wind power a less attractive option.

MUch better than chatting people in the background. Here in Europe, at least we have doors that can be closed :)

Lately growers have resorted to using natural gas powered generators to generate the electricity. Also they're growing cannabis outside between regular crops. That's where this toy might perhaps come in handy.

It's perfectly legal for the police to fly manned helicopters to keep track of things, so I don't know what's particularly 1984ish about this. I don't expect to ever see one of these things. My guess is that it's an experiment that'll soon fail.
