I mean, I could be totally wrong here; maybe NCSoft will allow Garriott and co. to do their thing and come up with a great game. We'll see. . . but I doubt it

It's not impossible. Remember Black and White? Peter Molyneaux had pretty much creative control over that game (although he did fund most of the development work himself). EA then distributed it I believe.

My first thought was the same. What is Garriot doing? He is falling into the same trap that he did with EA! However, he probably learned from his mistakes and had NCSoft make some SERIOUS concessions before going into the deal. That's what contracts are for. ;-)

I am really looking forward to Tabula Rasa, and I would actually like to see Lineage here in the States too. The game has 2.7 million subscribers in Asia! It has to be a damn good game.

Not administrate. Administer. Administrate is a word that uneducated people began using in sufficient quantities to make other people think it was a real word, even to the point of fooling some dictionaries into including it.

    Websters dictionary states:

ad*min*is*trate (verb) [Latin administratus, past participle of administrare]

    : ADMINISTER

"Uneducated" people have apparently been using the word for nearly 400 years. Isn't that enough time to adopt it into the language?

However, if I want WinAmp, and Netscape 6.x to match under Microsoft Windows, I need to create custom skins for each.

Then the solution is a standardized "skinning" platform. Then Winamp and Netscape could leverage the same skins. Anything like this exist or in the works? You would think Microsoft in all it's glory would have thought it up.

I think all applications are heading towards skin technology. It would be smart to allow skin techonology to pick up global color/font settings (if it doesnt already). Then we could please folks like yourself, which I am sure there are a bunch of.

This is good for hardware because ATI and NVidia will continue to push the envelope, developing more and more advanced graphics boards. Features will creep from one end to the other, just staggered a generation.

This is good for software because developers will have more choice in the hardware that they develop for. ATI doesn't support super-duper-gooified blob rendering? Ah, NVidia does in their new Geforce5. No worries, ATI will have to support it in their next generation boards.
