Move to Canada. We would love to have you - and we don't put up with that kind of bullshit here. You Americans are too willing to put up with such bullshit.
As a Canadian I am always amazed at the abuse of Justice by litigants in the US. It would seem that if you have deep pockets you can defeat justice in the US (OJ). I have long thought that the US Justice system is hugely flawed and the RIAA and their various suits have reinforced my belief.
This article is a breath of fresh air. It is about time that the small guy takes it to the man.
The RIAA is a justice bully that is using the flawed system to protect their supposed turf, and has picked on the wrong person yet again.
The US Supreme court needs to step in and finally smack those bastards to their knees. The RIAA is not protecting the artists or the consumers -- they are a bloated association with ulterior motives that protect nothing other than their own interests and need to be given a severe reality check.
As a Canadian with different rights -- I will watch in amusement -- the US electorate needs to make this an issue, for fear of having the rest of the US Justice system undermined. The RIAA is way too big for its own britches. I hope they get cut down to the level they should be at (which is merely an association that represents the artists that make the money for the industry). Even the artists that they supposedly represent complain about them.
So what is wrong with this picture? Come on you Americans -- lobby your congress person on behalf of the artists -- the RIAA is a bully. We don't allow bullying in our schools or our workplaces. Why allow it in your marketplace?
So Microsoft is finally admitting that they need external help to deal with the runaway train that they call security?
Just to play devil's advocate -- is there any chance that MS has purchased GIANT in an attempt to quell the complaints of spyware that come from MS users?
What if Microsoft purchased GIANT just to assuage users through the use of a Spyware removal tool that said: "You are okay now! (Congratulations!)".
MS is still the borg. They are losing considerable market share to Mozilla based browers at this point and they need to fight back with their typical FUD -- even if it means buying anti-spyware companies.
Why not just create a browser that is not as heavily infected with spyware vulnerabilities?
I will take my software GPL'd please. Thanks for coming out!
I have a Targus Sport Deluxe for my floptop, and I really like it. It has a padded insert for the floptop and lots of other storage for peripherals etc.
Linux really doesn't need users such as yourself. Linux is an advanced operating system. Please feel free to stick with your kindergarten operating system and save the rest of us having to offer to help you.
There is a reason that most hardware states that it requires WinXP or "better". They start with the lowest common denominator (WinXP), and then let you know that it will also work with "better" operating systems - ala *Nix
Perhaps the internet as we know it does need some innovation. It really is so sad to see it in its current state of disarray. (I really thought they were going to clean the internet last April 1st; and I logged off for that 24 hour period, because I could tell it needed some cleaning). Perhaps if enough of us had logged off they would have cleaned SCO from the internet? But NO! some selfish people stayed logged on, and SCO is still here. (Take heed interdroids.. please log off next Apr. 1st... perhaps they will clean the net of intervangelists such as Mr. McLaughlin. Didn't you guys get that email or what??).
Now, just in case Mark is in fact correct in his assertions that the internet is in need of innovation? I would suggest that VeriSign has had their kick at the cat, and ICANN should wildcard mistyped URL's to a different TLD each month, but exclude VeriSign for the first 36 months.
What do you think Mark? Is that innovative enough for you? Perhaps when a user types verisign.com a random link generator could take that user to a pr0n site just for shits and giggles? Innovative enough yet Marky?
Sheesh..........
Are Mark and Darl dating? or do they just have the same dealer?
When I look at the roadmap for their O/S's to expire from support? And then I get a sneak preview of "Longhorn"? If the current pace of Linux development continues............. they will be selling Longhorn in shoe stores by the time it comes to fruition!!
Please consider moving your advertising efforts to a more responsible medium, linux.com, apache.org, apacheworld.com, etc. (you get the idea)
Spending your precious advertising dollars on/. banners might have seemed prudent at some point, but/. is now being administered by 8 year olds, and they have it in their contract with Andover to maintain editorial control. I agree........... how can anyone take/. seriously when this sort of bullshit manages to make it on the front page of the site?
Are you people trying to self destruct and purposely try to drive readers and advertisers away?
Or just young and naive?
/. really needs the Andover ppl to assume ownership and prevent this sort of nonsense from showing up.............. apparently we have a maturity problem with the/. kids.
I don't give a rat's ass what type of agreement you have for editorial rights with Andover, you get more juvenile every day. I come to/. less all the time because of this nonsense.
The fact that the mainstream media misuses the term "Hacker" when they mean "Cracker" really has nothing to do with us; "The Community"
Let them use the wrong phraseology, does it really affect the community? I think not. It just shows again that the mainstream media is out to lunch.
I say let them eat cake and continue to show their ignorance, it should not affect us.
We as a community of *nix users and *bsd users are accountable for the perceptions of our particular operating systems and the users of those systems. We do not need to hide behind terms, we need to ensure that the users in our community are responsible users and chastise the users that abuse the power that we are blessed with.

I rest my case.

Don't install Windows! Use Linux!
So now we are making up words?
Irregardless is not a word.
Regardless is a word however!
I feel your pain, that has got to hurt!

Uhuh.........
And I was correct that you are an American?
And you wonder why the Arab nations hate your arrogance.........
Pretty easy to see why you hide behind Anonymous Coward for your posts.
Let me guess? You are an American right?
No doubt from some hillbilly colony on some hill somewhere?
With such advanced views as yours? You are going to need your snake religions and guns.
