It's about getting the lies 'right.' Like throwing spaghetti against the wall to see when it's done.
Snowden created a mess, and the people in charge of covering things up haven't generated a proper 'story' that sits well with the people (the bad people are truly bad, the good people are truly good, etc.). Normally it takes two or three variations to strike the right chord, but with Snowden they've had to resort to random generation and painful iteration to find something that truly resonates.
They're blocking Xeon chips, not Opteron chips. So, maybe some single-threaded programs the Chinese are running will suffer for it, but that's about all.
Ah, but there is; however, you won't like it. All this extra spying consumes resources, resources that would be better spent elsewhere...over time and as it increases, there is a noticeable drag effect on the economy. So you see, those shadowy creatures won't be kept in line by a shining white knight come to save us, but rather by the proverbial laws of thermo-economics.
Being that he's a script kiddy, the hole's he's exploiting have to be known to the world + dog for months, years, possibly decades...this is on the order of having a hole in your living room for weeks, and doing nothing about it, when a hurricane shows up and makes you miserable.
He's underage, a script kiddy, and is truly a threat only to those people who think that 'pa$$word1' is an innovative password.
Hmm, I don't know, grounding him for a month, and taking away his computer for a week or two would probably be as effective as a ten year sentence.
Remember, they're script kiddies, which, before/. and the internet went to the dogs, is one level up from being a newborn user. They're the equivalent of angsty teenagers, and should be dealt with as such; anyone arguing otherwise has had life too good.
Good luck with that. Your Ford Focus is probably not as safe at 60 MPH as my BMW 328xi (or whatever), so the safe speed differs per car. Additionally, since I suffer from microseizures, and you don't, you may be able to travel more safely at higher speeds than I.
Feel me? Good. Some people are blessed with the right bodies and cars to drive safely at 120 MPH on 60 MPH limited roads; others doing 30 MPH is a challenge.
Sounds like someone has never worked IT before (a summer job for many budding programmers during their high school years). Higher level IT wouldn't happen without knowledge of scripting languages (Python, PowerShell (I guess), Perl, etc.).
As for HR, they can assume I am the postman as long as they meet my hourly rate.
Who and how is this giving legitimacy to polygraph tests? We've known they're filled with errors and are at best unreliable. So who cares if someone is teaching people how to pass a fake test, or are we suddenly taking polygraph tests at face value now? Should I worry about attending the right church?
Speaking of RISC, I have an OT question (but still technology related, so there's that): does anyone know where I can pick up a DEC Alpha CPU + MB (or machine) in about a month's time, with a CPU speed of >=500Mhz? I have this undying urge to tinker with one, but eBay's listing stuff for 266Mhz, or at a price that well exceeds my inner geek's wallet.
The less you know, the easier it is to fantasize the implementation.
Which reminds me. NASA, what's taking you so long to colonize Venus? It's right there! Have it done by next Tuesday, or I'm going to vote to have your budget slashed.
This is something I arguably care about, and will not find myself apologizing to others for the FBI's behaviour.

48. The bigger the smile, the sharper the knife.
When the NSA says these kinds of things, it's like they are saying that they are immune to being cracked.

What? Where am...safeword, safeword!

In other news, Satan is viewed positively by those who have never heard of him...
Nonsense. All they need to do is label the floppies accordingly, and all manner of fun could be had.
"We've lost our 'WMDs.'"
"'North Korea' has proven incompatible with current reforms."
The jokes write themselves.

I thought we agreed to ditch JS, and use Python with C-style brackets instead.
Rofl...thanks for making my day.

Now if only Obsidian by Rocket Science were available...
I suspect he wants Vetinari.

What this will do is turn climate into a tactical weapon. Christ, they've done it with everything else.
There are no innocents, only people awaiting prosecution.

Because SDI was never mothballed.

I...I agree. There is so much derp here today that I feel /. is in contest with CNN for most yawns per minute.
Am I being detained? ;-)
