When I asked him where he was from he told me Canada... he was serious. His whole family has lived there for at least three generations. So, you can't always tell.

I got as far as this and stopped reading. Besides the fact that I haven't seen any of the problems he mentioned before this one, He completely misses what 'most users' are going to be doing. Yes, there are a few geeks who will be trying out different distros, and it might drive them mad that there is no unified configuration. But most 'users' are going to use only one distro. Users just want a computer to work. They are not going to care that distro X is different than the one they are using.

Linux has been ready for the main stream for years now. It easily passes the grandma test for usability.

You are absolutely correct that Real Capitalism is impossible... however so is real Socialism. I had the wonderful experience to travel from Hamburg Germany to Berlin via train back in 1988 (before the fall of the wall). I noticed back then that the east German's didn't have what I would call self respect for there environment. All of the buildings looked shoddy and grime encrusted with soot. There was trash in the streets and nothing in the general public sector had any upkeep. When I finally made it to the "west controled" portion of Berlin, it was like night and day. All of a sudden buildings were clean and bright, no trash in the streets and the parks and other public places were in good condition. That is the difference between a socialistic society and a capitalistic one.

We already have a government agency designed to keep the environment in good condition. Its called the EPA. If they are not doing their job, then maybe we need to hold them accountable instead of just creating another government agency.

I know that people are going to say this is one of Obama's greatest plans, however, we allready spend billions on R&D through DARPA. That technology does make it to the civilian sector, so we don't need this extra 3% tax on America.

We need manned aircraft right now, and the F-15 is not only good enough, it's far far more than good enough.

While they are not exactly our enemies, they are not really allies either. Who is to say that they won't use them against us in the future. No, my friend, we need to stay ahead of the technology that the rest of the world owns. That means we need the F-22's. At least until the UAV's are proven against all aerial threats.

  25. Re:F-22 on Predator C Avenger Makes First Flights · · Score: 1

I see a lot of people who tout the lack of guns on the F4 as a defense for keeping them around. The main problem with this idea is the missiles of the Vietnam era were not real good at beyond line of site lock. Today's missiles are a different story. We can easily engage a target well outside of human visual ability. Notice I said 'human visual ability', I know that there may be times when we need visual confirmation before the release of a weapon. Cameras are capable of seeing well beyond what the average human can see. Heck, the ball camera on the Predator is capable of picking targets many miles away.

Also, while the lack of guns on the F4 got the most attention, one of the real reasons for the high death rate of pilots during Vietnam was that they didn't trust there missile jamming technology and would simply shut it off. But fighter jocks never make mistakes, so you don't hear about that in the mainstream media.
