    A small population which shouldn't even show up as a significant factor.

    I wouldn't call 3.4 million people in the US insignificant. Nor the 39 million blind and 285 million visually impaired insignificant.

    And judging by the way people drive, I suspect that there are many more who should not be driving at night because they are night-blind, or have really bad peripheral vision loss without even recognizing it.

    It's not just the elderly. I was in the recovery room after retinal surgery and the 10-year-old kid in the next bed had l had his eye removed, and the other one is either also gone now (2 years later) or going to be removed at some future date. How the heck does a family deal with that? It affects far more than just the individual involved.

    It wasn't bad for the economy when oil prices were high, so the two are unrelated.

    Latest reports also say he's building up a permanent military presence in Syria, as well as along the Turkish border. That changes the strategic balance of power - a lot!. NATO won't defend Turkey.

    When all the Windows users panic that there are only a few more days left to get their free upgrade, not realizing that their older release is still going to be just fine even after support ends, so they can start saving up for a new computer that isn't running a beta product.

    I would expect to turn telemetry off, and if I find a problem, turn it on and repeat whatever I was doing that caused the bug.

    Slashdot, using commas in place of the word "and" is a stupid, pointless tradition, and in this case it looks like you're tweeting Rubio to warn him about Cruz's plan (in bad English).

    It's called "headline punctuation". Not only does is save 3 letters, but it makes the headline harder to parse, so you have to read it a second time or click it to see what it really means.

    If we accept the impact model, then we should expect that the chunks that ended up forming the moon were outside Roche's limit. Still, with the center of gravity of the earth-moon system being more than 4,000 km beneath the surface even today, I would expect gravity-induced compression and expansion of the crust, mantle, and outer core to come into play when it comes to bleeding off energy. The problem gets really interesting :-)

    Come off it - Apple isn't impeding the FBI from searching the phone. However, the FBI screwed it up by changing the password to the cloud storage so the phone can no longer be paired to the cloud, and now wants Apple to do their job for them.

    He's already said that he doesn't want H1Bs, or TPP, or TIPP. Maybe he realizes that the better off Americans are, the more money they'll spend at his casinos, golf courses, and hotels? I comparison, shipping jobs overseas doesn't put as much money in his pocket. It also negatively impacts the value of his personal holdings ...
