    every sony DVD and CD Drive I've had have died !
    (even in my PS2)

    Ripping my cd collection ( rather than downloading!)
    killed many drives
    Finally my Samsung cd writer just kept working !

    I realy hope sony will use quality parts !

    Drives often die because they get too hot , or too cold, don't turn PCs off overnight in winter if they are in a non heated enviroment.
    and install fans pointing at your drives !

    Anyone remember those fujitsu drives (20-40s) ?
    those failed because a chip didn't like it hot or cold

    mixer
    Surround AMP (5.1 ? , 7.1 ? )

    oh and a TV of some sort

    I need a bigger house !

    a unit that can do CD and DVD and (new round plastic format) all is one IS a good thing

    Every distro applies their chosen set of patches to the vanilla kernel, uses their own specific configuration, and does their own testing.

    Slackware doesn't
    I don't

    I make my servers with 2.6.x and mostly slackware.
    I really do wish Linus would atleast put out a 2.6.11u on an "unstable" kernel , and then 2.6.12 for a "stable" one. - telegraph it for the stupid out there.

    ( am I the only one missing out on LKML since ECN was turned on )

    Ahem

    1. Install Firefox.
    2. Add *.windowsupdate.microsoft.com to trusted sites.
    3. Disable everything in "Internet Zone."
    4. Remove stuff from local zone.
    5. Run Firefox and Make it the Default.
    6. Grab a spyware program which adds sites to "Restricted Sites"
    7. Turn Everything off for "Restricted sites"
    8. Make windowsupdate.microsoft.com the start page.

    now lets see them try and use it !

    I suspect it's the older KDE I have with KDEINIT growing over time.
    I'm usually to busy tring to work to have time to solve it on monday Mornings when it usually strikes.

    KDE 3.2.x does exactly this

    log out
    ctrl + alt + bksp
    log in
    restart software
    yay fast for 4 more days......

    ksystemguard tells me when to much is swapped out...

    but it's not linux , it's memory leaks in software that can be restarted!

    well I don't play Sims or Buy Maxis anymore because

    locate CD in CD racks - 10 minutes searching.
    Insert CD-ROm in DVD Rom
    try to run , nope - insert CD message
    Insert in Burner ( i'd rather wear out the Read only unit) nope - Insert CD message
    Uninstall Virtual CD software
    try again in ROM
    try again in Writer

    game crashes after 10 minutes.

    - at least Playstations have a reasion to need the CD/DVD in the Drive.

    At what point will America (The world's only largest Superpower) decide that it needs to blackmail ( or just blow up) someone in order to get imports of good it can no longer aquire with american dollars. For years america's currency has been proped up with oil, now the Euro is out there......

    I just have my server on a garage shelf, with cardboard nailed up to restrict ventilation/visability.

    The computer, Hub and UPS seem to generate enough heat that the card allows cooking , but still keeps a comfortable temperature ....

    and yes welding rods in an old fridge with teh bulb is very common , but I'd want a bit more ventilation than that for a computer
