    you don't remember back very far.

    Linux was 1 GB ram 3 swap IIRC , then 2/2 split with a patch , then once people started actually making machines with 4GB - linux supported it soon after.

    was a big song and dance because linux supported >2 gb before win NT/2k

    I almost walked out right awa, but you have to stay for 1 hour
    I finished in 1 hour of the 3 hours allowed and left

    that was the worse exam I ever went to.

    passed too!

    But if you are running 98 on a new PC with a new intel chipset and SATA drive , don't try to actually use any builtin devices , sound, sata drives ,dvd .... major problems....

    blast it , hardware drives are forcing upgrades to XP :-(

    Wouldn't it be easier to just go into a shop and demands the X rated next version of grand theft auto Timbuktu if the shop doesn't stock it , tell them to pull their head out and stock it or you'll buy all your games elsewhere.

    Here in NZ GTA had (almost) the same rating a porno would have , and games stores stocked it - games publishers would happy to have an 18/R/X rating if consumers demanded stores stock the game(s).

    1) Remote exploits to services running as root.

    Which is why every service which can run as a user has it's own user account/UID

    2) Evil shit that can run as the user (spam bots and so on).

    easy to find and kill - can't hide from root.

    3) Programs that use a local privledge escalation exploit to gain root.

    If you don't use a SUID program then chmod -s it

    4) Programs that install for the user, wait till the elevate privledge, grab the password and use it.

    Don't Run users shit as root.

    5) Evil programs that piggy back on top of other software that needs root to install (as spyware often does with P2P programs).

    Download source or from trusted sites only.

    6) Dumb users that simply enter their password whenever asked, without checking what it's for.

    Ok shoot them, then after they have the hassle of a broken system they will learn.

    my torrents finished downloading

    Argh , my disc 2 seems to be corrupt , i mounted -o loop my iso and couldn't read most files on it

    so I killed my torrents so as not to share did iso files :-( anyone else have trouble ?

    Me thinks that Google's popularity has alot to do with the clean easy interface

    I can't even find the search box at yahoo anymore

    And the ads , they don't flash , they don't distract , they are relevant to what you are reading. they are what advertizing should be.

    it's just "not being evil" and gosh customers like it. They provide the service wanted and just the service , and they do it well.

    I miss Elite , havn't played a good game of elite since I had to sell the C64
    Frontier sucked - crashed to much

    every other space game is missing somthing, freedom , insect aliens , etc

    every elite style game seems to fold ..... or suck
    and for some reasion Elite Plus runs a little fast on my P4 , or even on my Celeron 600. ... launch ... oops hit the planet..... *sigh*

    what if:

    Google now have an easy way of clasifying spam from email and from blogs

    why don't they give spammers a lower score , do a whois on the IP address and score them down accross the board.

    They could create a register of spammers and use this to filter spam , blogs and web. when spammers who spam google get no web trafic at all (except for that pesky yahoo and msn search) then they will go out of busness.

    How about just having an email client use the APIs that anti virus uses to scan ... , outlook saves to disk and runs without norton scanning , whereas eudora always saved and then scanned before launch
