Can I be the first to say: dork!
Whether or not it "works" with Linux at the moment (I know it does/will), the thing is, it can/will, _and_ I've been using a Y-shaped connector cord (don't know the real name of it; it came with my personal CD player so that it could be connected to speakers....) to connect the headphone outlet jack on my laptop with the 2 connections on the back of my stereo and just playing mp3s like that. Of course, having read a number of the other comments, I see that there are lots of other, more convenient ways to play mp3s via stereos, etc... so, where is your triumph? Looks like you lost before you even started the battle. Ha!

I'm going to assume, although I couldn't actually know (and tragically enough, I didn't read the 2 other [at the time of this writing] replies to the comment I'm replying to), that you won't really ever be able to encrypt something.. software or hardware wise, etc., etc. This is because, in my mind, since it was encrypted in the first place, that means that there exists a code somewhere (or some "code" somewhere) that is the key to its undoing. Whether or not anyone else knows this besides the maker of said code is not important. As long as it was encoded, it can be decoded. It's inevitable, therefore, that it will be "cracked," as long as the actual cracking of it will be worth the while. Therefore, I figure they might as well give up. It's a waste of time. Besides, who likes M$? ;-)

Yeah.... it seems to be another one of those situations in which, to conquer the market, the company tries to be everything at once, so that they'll have a rush of supporters for start up (even though their product sucks) so that they can ensnare these supporters with upgrades as they work frantically to improve their product to 'working' status... later to introduce a new release, fabled to correct the problems of the original/previous version(s) and to introduce new and never-seen-before features.

"For example, typing in the word "Apple" might bring up Apple Computer's Web site or information about growing apples, depending on the context of the request. "

Of course, I also note that the quote says "depending on the context of the request," but isn't that delving, still, into the realm of some sort of pseudo-AI, high-tech search engine? Is this necessary? Are we having soo many problems finding web pages? Or is it some attempt to make us think we're being "more efficient" (re: lazy) while really making us work more? Hmmmm.......

Not to be redundant, of course, but I thought he spoke english well (I've never heard him in person, of course). And it is often that non-native english speakers, once trained in the "full" depth and breadth of english, speak it better than native speakers, who often relax the language into their dialects, and distort it with their regional accents, etc.

Yeah, my thoughts are, if they're going to do something, they ought to do it right, and just go ahead and release the source now. I'm thinking, if they're so sincere about Open Sourcing, and if they'd really been in the true spirit of Linux, they would not even be having this press release now........ they'd have already open sourced everything, and it'd be no biggie.
