I have had my GMail account for about a week now and I have yet to get a response to any of the questions I submitted last Saturday.
I also never got the confirmation email for all but one of my submissions. GMail seems to have some intelligent filtering to drop messages with identical bodies.
How deluded can you be sonny? Do you really think that kids have a corner on brain power? Get over yourself. Many of the people you call "adults" were were writing the code that keeps our economy afloat before you were a twinkle in your momma's eye.
The topic should read more along the lines of "Introducing a neophyte to programming." Age has nothing to do with it. And no, this is not a "old dogs, new tricks" thing. Some people just don't think logically enough to "get it" regardless of age.
I have to agree. Watercooling is a sure way to quiet things down, especially if you're overclocking and therefore using monster fans on your CPU and GPU. I bought a Koolance Exos and was able to get rid of the fans on my CPU, GPU and one blowing over my overclocked memory since case temps are way down. Went from listening to an airplane to listening to my hard drives.
You know what? You're right. I shouldn't have posted so hastily. I basically threw out my gut reaction in hopes of getting a first post. I know, I know, lame... Sorry.
Sorry but I couldn't disagree with you more on the character change thing.
I didn't go into detail about the most heinous character changes here so if you want to see what I mean specifically, please see my post at TheOneRing.net.
focuses on telling one of the greatest stories of our time as well as it can - and it succeeds beyond almost everyone's expectations.
Not for this little black duck and I'm not alone. PJ and the wrecking crew (as I have affectionately come to call them) told a very nice story that has much in common with The Lord of the Rings but it was far from the world most of the fans have come to know and love from reading the books.
There were simply too many sweeping changes made to the very fiber of many of the main characters. Couple this with drastic changes in the plot and what you've got are a very entertaining set of movies that have enough of the original story to make a fan feel torn enough to still try to enjoy them while still feeling betrayed.
1) the character degredation of Farimir, and 2) the inability of TTT to portray Ents as being very ancient and very wise beyond the comprehension of the fast-paced lives of the more mortal
Yep. These are my top two as well. Abso-freaking-lutely inexcusable.
Seriously, my wife is a professional critical care nurse. She's good at it, she loves it, but it's not more important to her than our children.
She's been mostly home since we started having kids (30 month old boy, 9 month old girl) working only enough to get a break from the kids (though not at all for the last 9 months) and our kids are reaping the benefits. Day care can never be an adequate replacement for 24/7 mother care.
Now before you go off about money, let me say that I ain't rich. I make a decent living but the mortgage is mighty steep to match. The money has been very tight for the last few years with only one income but it is worth every penny lost to know our kids are being raised by their mother!
How does one bad review for a game constitute a statement like "Not Worth The Effort"?
Here's a tip: Try looking at more than one review before you bash something in such a high profile forum.
In the future, try looking up a game's rating on MetaCritic. Have a look and you'll see that altough not everyone liked it, it wasn't universally panned either.
The Slashdot editors need to wake up to the fact that Slashdot holds sway over many a mind. This influence should not be taken lightly.
1024-bit RSA keys can be completed in less than a year by a $10M device.
Ooh, I'm shaking in my boots now... C'mon folks get a grip. Who gives a rat's fart if a 1024-bit key can be compromised with a $10 million dollar device?
Run for the hills Velma! The govmn't will be able to read our bank statements, after they dedicate a $10 million dollar device to cracking our RSA key for a year!
I agree with many of the comments so far. This really isn't anything special. There are plenty of vendors out there that sell better systems for less money.
This box is nothing more than an overstuffed behmoth. If you want to see some really cool systems, look to the [H]ard|Forum and you'll be blown away at what a bunch of [H]ardcore [H]ardware geeks can do in their garages.
And if you really want someone else to build it for you, look around, there are much better deals out there.
Wow! I've been accused of being both a Nazi and a Jew in the same thread! LOL!
BTW, I am neither. In any case, it's not that I don't believe in helping anyone outside of the US, it's just, I mean, wiring for the net? C'mon! How about running water and a decent road system?
I tend to agree with some of the other posters in this thread that some people have their priorities whacked, acting as though Internet access is the panacea for all ills.
I can go buy Redhat, Mandrake, SuSE, FreeBSD, etc, *NOW* and have a current system. Or I can choose to buy a three year old system knowing that I need three service packs just to get it up to par.
Eh? So all fixes are somehow magically integrated with off the shelf software? Is this some sort of cosmic osmosis? So you never download fixes for your *nix boxes and simply go buy the most recent distro? Riddle me that Batman.
Releases every six to nine months are better than releases every three years
What in the world are you talking about? Releases every three years? SP3, by definition, is (let's count children) the third of a run of three service packs released for Win2K. And no, they didn't all just come out.
In addition, I can get patches for Open Source Software the day they are created, instead of several months down the road when Microsoft decides a issue the next service pack.
Bzzt! Wrong again plucky! Fixes, especially security fixes, are not delayed until a service pack is released. A service pack, again by definition, is a collection of security (and other) fixes, many of which were released far prior to the release of the service pack.
Yea, because we all know that open source software never needs to be patched. Yep, it's all 100% secure from the start. All open source software is versioned in whole number increments with no point releases for bugs. It's positively magical!

Forgot to post the obligatory pics.

I doubt there'll be any good excuse for the monstrous character assassination they committed on Faramir, though.
Right on there! Even now when I think of that my hair stands on end! What a snowjob!

Can you say paranoid?
I don't mean to downplay the effort that goes into something like this but am I the only one that thinks the results sound like, well, crap?
Sure, sure it's kinda cool that it can be done but let's be honest, does this really mean that it should be done?

Remote Laos villages?
Sorry but speaking as an American, I'm more worried about wiring remote US villages and schools.
Loophole
I think it is was supposed to be a joke, just like the SNL skit was. Get it?
Just FYI it does have audio output albeit mono. There is even an MP3 Player available for it.
That about sums it up for me. I have owned a palm but finally settled on an Diamond/Psion Mako/Revo for two major reasons.
1) A real, usable keyboard.
2) A landscape screen that lends itself well to calendars.
All I ever use it for is a calendar that syncs with Outlook.
This kind of garbage makes my stomach turn. How in the world can this sort of thing be tolerated?
News flash boys and girls: By definition, members of a free market economy should not be offered any concessions of this sort.
Sigh... Wake up America! We now live in a socialist society!

Too bad it takes 3 service packs...
