I think it'll bring more developers to mono, and also more accurate code. Many developers couldn't code with quality due to the lack of a linux compiler, to develop the mono framework developers should go to windows and compile at.net compiler.
Linux is not part of.com economy boom. Both growth occured simultaneous, but not attached to each other.
Internet helped with Linux popularity, it's much more easy to learn about linux with internet than it was before. But, the.com economy has nothing with linux, besides it's linux user, as many others industries are.
Maybe now it's the linux comunity chance to show that .com != linux. All the comunity must do is keep working without worrying about.com crash. Why does the comunity must care about this?
IMHO linux IS much more than apache, php, perl, etc. It can be a wonderful server with lots of wonderful functionalities, compabilities. And also be a great desktop for those who can understand what's happening behind X.
What about AC sensorship at 2.2.20? All I saw is that the DMCA citation is still there. When will we know what kind of patch is that?
Will Tossati allow all the world (but US) to know what's happening inside the kernel?
Due to a dumb and stupid law the freedom of our kernel is being violated. Why can't we know what the heck was changed?
I want the kernel freedom back. And I hope that Torvalds and Tossati will bring it back to us. I don't care if this update is irrelevant to me, and for most users. I have the right to know and I want to know!
Or everything we fight for means nothing? Will Tossati and/or Torvalds allow that a stupid foreign (they are not americans) law to steal our freedom? Will they let DMCA destroy everything we believe (OpenSource/FreeSoftware or whatever).
I'm very disapointed. Many claims today for quality. I think that we need our freedom back above all.
By using BSD-type license you let your code to every software house uses it as they want. It can even release a version using your "free" code using a non-free license.
Perhaps as you said LGPL will be very restrive for embedded systems, you are almost right, there's no how to recompile embedded software.
I think you have 3 choices. Fork LGPL and build your own version with a special paragraph for embedded systems. Build a special version of your library with another license.
Or you can ask every potencial "user" (the library user is the programmer/projectist) to find a way to easily update the firmware and allow the user to compile it.
I think that the second option is the best, but you can choose.:o)
I always thought it's fair that US companies register themselves as.com without.country sufix. It's fair because internet has born in US.
But ITOH every country has its own sufix and US has none. Now each country has its own sufix and also can register a "country-sufix-less" domain. It's much more fair to everybody.
Well, it's good to have.us domains, for me it sounds that www is becoming much more world than web.
I know that Anthrax exists a long long time ago, but USArmy decieded to develop a even worst "race" of Anthrax, it's the main race used in recent terrorist atacks.
A long time ago USArmy decided that biological harzadous weapons would be a great idea. Then they developed a deadly biological weapon, they called A-n-t-h-r-a-x.
Many years later they decided to ban biological weapons, that was a great idea. But this year when the world asked for the end of all the kinds of biological weapons Mr.Bush said NO.
Six months later he realized that it was a Bad Idea(c). (needless to say why)
What do you think? Is this Magic Lantern a good idea or a bad idea?
Everybody who have once played AD&D for sometime have ever headr about the Dark Palladin.
Once upon a time, a long long time ago, a woman (I don't remember her name), a palladin (lawful good) that have promissed to fight against all evil in the world if her child survives the terrible plague.
Once her son has survived she went to the holy fight against the evil, killing with no mercy all evil she could encounter, and destroying all the evil in the region.
Once she had destroyed all the evil (chaotic evil, neutral evil and lawful evil) she decided to destroy every soul that is not good. Many was killed, even innocents and children was killed.
She generated horror all around the reign destroying every soul not good, and now she started to kill non-lawful (chaotic good and neutral good). It was horrible, the fear was everywhere, nobody could ever know when the palladin could appear.
One day, after killing dozens of non-lawful-good she was praying when a strange mist came all around her beloved church. Her shining armor became dark and a voice told her: "You have done a wonderful job, but now I have something even bigger for you."
I question follows me everytime I hear anything about copy protected CDs.:
Are these CDs compatible with Compact Disc Digital Audio? (that small trade marked logo that must appear in all CD players and Audio CDs
Does the owner of this technology (AFAIK Philips owns the patent) have any kind of official opinion about this? Is it allowed to modify the technology and keep using the compatible logo?
Can anybody help me with this question? (thanks in advance)

It's a big step forward. Congratulations
That's great! Aqua buttons!
I think that Apple will be very happy to see this.
I don't like that - user, he always posts things and I have to meta-moderate him :oP
He will be my #1 foe.

Is there any MS Windows XP bug counter on the web? Something like:
I think it would be funny, we could also compare with Linux 2.4.x bugs. And maybe we can also have a Score thing, or something like /.
Any suggestion? Any website that already do this?
That's why humanity won't build no more major wonders anymore. We'll spend our lives playing games.
As far as they don't point this dam microwave beam near home (about 500km) I don't care.
Gee, what's next? Alien Invasion that burns everything into Trees? Life imitates the games, maxims really hited the bullseye this time.
That's why it is written in the title Broadcast communication.
Telegraph isn't broadcast, it's peer-to-peer. To a point to another, and nobody else receiving it.
This sounds to me just like the GM/Ford cases at the 60's about negleting consumers. Isn't time to DOJ put a period on all these things?
First that stupidity of Nimda IIS bug, that can't be fixed until next IIS release. And now this Security through obscurity crap?
Now I want to ask. "Where will M$ take us". I know where I want to go, but what about them?
It's much more amazing if we notice that the Darth Vader Helmet is much more cheaper ($2000-)
Ok, auctions are unpredictable, but 4 times more is a very significant difference.
Probably to avoid companies to change the license so it doesn't allow FreeSoftware anymore.
But this is a good idea, why don't we try to submit this modification to GPL v3 or even GPL v4?

I spent a lot of money in a anti-virus software to avoid that any kind of unawanted software is running in my so-called servers.
I also was hoping to minimize the risk of having any kind of confidencial data stolen from my company.
And now? how can I be sure that FBI won't steal my confidencial data (note: I know they won't use it, but still he can steal)
I want my money back.

I think that 1984 must be updated to 2004, or 2008.
Then it'll be very very realistic.
Here in brazil governmental sites uses .gov.br what about in US? It's .gov and not .gov.us.
That's what I meant. Not only to commercial sites, but also for government, educational, etc

Now she has a whole realm for her in Ravenloft.
It's very easy to pass over all this stupid barriers (including country firewalls). All I have to do is ask one single question.
Does anybody have a proxy (anonymizer) server avaiable?
Nothing else to say.
Here in Brazil anything bought by mail/internet don't pay taxes if under US$50. Now I can buy my DC and pay only US$50 + shipping :o)
I wonder what will happen to local retailers.
Not that normal. You got Score 5 at slashdot. And after all you read slashdot and also send comments.
Don't worry, you still can be cured.
When everybody used to believe that at year 2000 cars would be obsolete, and we all would fly. tsc tsc tsc.
But that'll be funny. I'll like to see what kind of ideas and/or design will show up. Will they be just like the 50's?
