Ok, I know that if I'm going to install in a empty machine it's very useful to have the latest version of your favorit distro.
But what about this upgrade stuff? I've heard a lot of people saying that they'll buy RH7.3 (or another brand-new version of any distro) to upgrade their current version.
Isn't this supposed to be unecessary? Isn't GNU/Linux supposed to be upgradable just where needed? What am I faling to understand here.
Please, don't take this as a troll of a flamebait, I just want to understand.
Don't play, even if your employer says that you can do so after your work-time. Employers always change their mind after seeing an employee playing computer games inside the company dependencies.
I saw this happen with me, and with other friends of mine, so don't ever plan to play games inside the company dependencies. If possible avoid to tell anyone that you don't really trust that you like games, officially you hate computer games, and only your closest friends knows what you really like to do after leaving the company.
Too drastic? After passing through the acusations I have passed, and after two of my supervisors blame me and lie about what they allowed and didn't allowed me to do during work all I can say is, don't trust your boss.
Take a look at me. I'm just a ridiculous nerd that can't barely know the visual difference between CD-R and CD-RW. Even though I know that this stupid idea won't be enough to avoid the so called digital piracy.
Let's see what they hope to get with this brand-new device:
Some music companies will release the discs with hidden extra albums, which can be activated by entering codes bought at their Web sites for $8 to $13.
May I know the jack-ass who have had this stupid idea? I give a week to a chinese hacker find a way to activate the entire disk without paying a nickel. And I want to see the dam DMCA look for the anonymous hacker who would do this!
When connected, a user can also store data on the discs -- 250 megabytes on each side, for a total slightly less than the 650 megabytes that fit on a CD.
How long will take until the technical advisors wonders what will happen after a regular nerd have digital access to the disc content? Of course it will try to put all the content to its HD and get rid of the dam disc.
Due to its small size it's obvious that it can become very popular, even replacing that old 3"1/2 floppies, and the 5"1/4 CDs. When this happen, GPLds hackers will want to access the disc and all its contents, then they can say goodbye to the copy protections and the cryptographic methods.
Dataplay incorporates safeguards to prevent songs sold on the discs from being copied to computers, a major plus for the music industry.
First of all, a major plus for the music industry should be quality, this shows that MPAA isn't worryied about the consumer, but about theirselves. Should we buy products from an industry that cares that much about the consumer? All they worry about is money, and not about the consumer's satisfaction
And the technical issue. As I said before, there's no way to avoid it to happen. It's digitaly recorded and there's a machine wich reads it, so it's completely possible to hack it and get it's digital content.
Sony introduced the compact, rewritable Minidisc in 1992, and while moderately popular in Japan and Europe, it has never caught on in the United States.
And how do they want to introduce a lower-quality product? Have their technical advisors realized that there already is a very good competitor? I wouldn't buy a new and inferior product if the better one is avaiable and already is spreaded in the market.
(under a picture)
South Korea's iRiver Inc. is expected to release a music player that uses the tiny Dataplay discs in June.
This shows that the format is about to born already dead, in South Korea there already is avaiable MDs and as stated before, they are much better. Even if it becomes a success, there's no DMCA in Korea, so we'll have a GPLd player even sooner.
Other partner companies plan to incorporate Dataplay discs in digital cameras and small handheld movie viewers, to be released later this year. A disc can store a two-hour movie at a low resolution suitable for small screens.
Finally something intelligent about this piece of shit. IMHO a standard "high-capacity" storage medium is needed in the market, each device has its own medium, and it can become a standard for the industry.
For all this that I have seen, and their technical advisors haven't, I think that they need new advisors. Maybe I'm one of the ellectibles, maybe everybody reading slashdot can be a good advisor for them, but first they need to find out this.
Probably fighting agains rivers/seas pollution is a better idea, since seaweeds are responsible for 90% of the oxigen production are done by them.
I've heard that NASA spent 2 years developing a pen capable of writing in 0g. The russians used a pencil.
That's exactly the point, don't just start acting, try the simplicity, haven't we learned anything with the fight Windows vs. Unix? Simplicity is much better, try preserving seaweeds instead of build expensive CO2 extractors and planting trees.
Oh, and don't forget about the Hydrogen-cells engine, now a days it can be produced, but due to financial problems it is not as popular as it should be.
One of the solutions for this problem is webchats. Webchat can be done using http and a web browser, all the functionality becomes controled by web frames inside the browser. No information can be retrieved besides the ones avaiable.
Of course that there are plenty of disadvantages, the speed is one of them, but I think that is acceptable so we can increase security.
Other option is modify IRC protocol to avoid these security flaws, this would avoid speed problems, and maybe is the more intelligent thing to do. But, will new IRC clients/servers implement the new protocol.
IMHO the new protocol, whatever it would be, http or new irc, should not be compatible with the old one, so we enforce the change, and avoid further problems.
This article shows how flawful is the representative system, called democratic now a days, as stated here. Such a centered system cannot represent the regular citizen that religeous votes every election, trying to be represented by a person that he baraly knows.
Lobby should be prohibited, this is one of the main problems of the representative system as implemented today.
We should avoid all kinds of influences that can make difference to our political representation. Industries does not vote, and should not have any political opinion.
Of course we should know better who are we going to vote to, and know better what the representative system is. We also have fault in theses problems.
No problem with this, as far as the missile launch being done by a trigger, not by thoughts.
Imagine a stupid lietunent (just like Band of Brothers) starring at the pilot in front of a plane equiped with this device. It would be interesting to see stupid sargents being killed!
But, what can I do? What can I say? I'm not military.:o)
Notice the use of the word "consumers" and not citizens. His interests clearly are for the corporations and not for the average American.
This shows us what's CBDTPA all about. It's about increasing the sales, it's about RIAA/MPAA profit, it's about greed.
IMHO Sen Holings is not acting as a legitimate american people delegate. He works RIAA/MPAA wills and does not care which rights he will brake to make their wishes come true.
Once again we have right in front of us a living proof that this political structure does not work the way it is organized, and shall not be supported anymore by none of us!
This is the way it should be. RIAA should learn how to avoid copying without changing laws, or even excluding technologies or breaking any copyright. If they try to add value to their products I'm sure that many will avoid copying.
I'll say it again, RIAA/MPAA must learn to adapt themselves to new upcoming technologies. When a robot replaces a worker there are no laws that avoid this, the worker must adapt himself, by doing a new job, or by doing it better then the robot.
No association should overcome the democracy or the liberty, let's avoid this kind of thing.
4.2 We may add, delete or change some or all of the Software functionality provided in connection with KaZaA at any time. This may include download of necessary software modules. Any new features that augment or enhance.
This means that they can do whatever was needed to add this distributed network stuff.
About downloads/installations without your explicit approval:
4.5 You acknowledge that KaZaA or parties appointed by KaZaA may from time to time provide programming fixes, updates and upgrades to you, including automatic updates to the KaZaA Media Desktop, through automatic electronic dissemination and other means. You consent to such automatic updates and agree that the terms and conditions of this Agreement will apply to all such updates.
This means that Kazaa may send you updates without any warning, and you agreed with this.
Conclusion, everything Kazaa is doing is legal. They are not doing anything there's not in the Terms of Use accepted by every user.
Take a look at these values, what do they tell you? That Sen Hollings is much more influent that
Schiff? It shows that both want to go where the money is.
Sen. Hollings is nothing but a puppet, take a look at his top 5 supporting industries:
#1
Lawyers - maybe Al Pacino was right in Devil's Advocate
#2 Media - they are the most interested in all this shit since it was called SSSCA
#3 Lobbyists - what we need to proof that Sen Hollings does not legislate for the citizens, but for the American lobbyists
#4 and #5 Communication - who else? Do you have any doubt that this lobby changed SSSCA to CBDTPA?
IMHO all these industries supporting CBDTPA should learn to adapt themselves to the new technologies avaiable, just like everybodyelse in the world do, just like every America Citizens have to do!
This stupid law is the proof of the lazyness of the media industries. By supporting CBDTPA this hard, they are public assuming that they can't adapt themselves to the new technology. And instead of solving their problems by their own, they need to affect American's Citizens Rights in order to save their own from new upcoming companies that can overthrown them from the top of the world.
Ok, no more alarming news, lets consider what will change in GNU/Linux, for example:
Can't show/edit any kind of image, even icons
Can't play/edit any kind of music
Can't show/edit any kind of text
Can't show/generate any kind of printable content
Can't browse (pages might be copyrighted)
Too many things to list here
But maybe there's a way out. What if Free Software license allows only the creation of non-copyrighted material? Of course that Free Software should create brand new file formats, but I think that it's a way out, isn't it?
Maybe we may also exclude our names from our codes, as stated by R. Polk Wagner even reputation increasements maybe configured as commercial activity.

I think that Sen. Hollings meant that Disney are afraid to provide large quantities of digital content due to the so called lack of copyright protection.
IMHO what Disney means (for me Sen Hollings is a puppet) is that they are not ready for the new economy and the new digital era. I think that Disney should learn how to adapt itself to new technologies (just like most of us have to do) instead of trying to change the technology and make US citizens pay for its lazyness.
CBDTPA is a legal freak, just like DMCA, and shows that the representative system (also know as democracy by US dear president), the way it is organized today, is flawfull and cannot be supported anymore.
After many diplomatic disastrous decisions, and a terrorist attack (that turned a completely dumb president in a great stadist), maybe now GWB listens to the commom sense and decides to accept Kioto treat.
Its a fact that US is by far the most polluting country in the world, and the only economically big to refuses to accept Kiotos terms.
US must realize that this kind of decisions make it more and more seen as a "evil empire" (using GWB own words) by other countries that believe that all this decisions aims its own interests and forgets about all cooperation among other countries.
Its due to these kind of decision, and due to the ignorance of countries that feels that they can solve this problem with violence, that attacks like the ones in 9/11 happens.
Itll be much better if GWB really considers to change his decisions about foreing politics to avoid more conflicts, not armed conflicts, but economic conflicts that can be worse then armed ones (US cant lose a armed conflict, but I cant say the same about economic ones)
All this bull-shit is counter productive. Try to imagine what will happen to the so-called "country of oportunities".
Imagine there's no garage development, imagine there's no Apples, and no Suns. Imagine a country that the simple fact of develop your own way to connect your VCR to your home computer is a federal crime.
Most of American's biggest technology companies has born in garages, with small projects becoming big. All this will never more happen again.
Who will win? India, Israel (if they don't kill themselves in their own war before), Brazil, China. Countries that produces big minds and today export them to US. They will not be exported anymore to US, they will build their own worldwide technologies companies in their own country. And then US won't have big technologies companies anymore. Everybody will have to use their 10-year-old DVD player bought in 2003 because brand new technologies produced in other countries do not fit into SSSCA!
Who wants this? RIAA/MPAA don't care about this, when US becomes a technologic dead country they will leave and find another country where they can win more money! The same applies to big technologic corporations, they will leave US and will go to other countries where technology development is cheapper and most of all possible.
I'm not american, I should be favorable to SSSCA, but I'd like my country to grow for their own credit. The only who have to care about this is American people, nobody else needs to worry about this.
Yes, I'll re-open the project in a server here in Brazil! And now I want to know: Who will shut me down? Who will tell me that I can't do a deamon like this because the law in a North American country does not allow?
I say let's re-open and wait for the evil-axis come and close us.
Here in Brazil we have the solution for those who don't know exactly what to major in. We call Normal Course (Curso Normal in portuguese).
Here in Brazil high school is three years long, so we have to decide our carrer before 18. Many of us choose easier courses or even popular courses, exactly what shouldn't be done.
Just like RIAA, MPAA must find a way to be much more attractive to consumers actually buy their product and avoid them to download it from internet.
Recently RIAA lowered their prices to US$10 for a regular CD. If I'm really interested in an artist I would buy a ten-buck-cd, I would pay for audio quality, and even for graphical quality (and of course know the real music name:o) and for a nice case.
This was the first RIAA intelligent step, and I hope MPAA follows its fellow.
