I second Alexander Keith's. The pride of Nova Scotia, a very good pale ale.
Sleeman is also good. Try the cream ale, or the lager.
I also enjoy the occasional Moose Head. Also a lager.

I stay away from most Molson and Labatt beers such as Canadian and Bleue.

  3. Changing the way things are now will be difficult on What Corporate Email Limits Do You Have? · · Score: 1

Where I work, we are on Lotus Notes and we will be moving to Exchange within the next month of so (ugh!).

Here's what our policy will be since I could never enforce one in Lotus Notes.
    200mb soft limit (warning)
250mb hard limit (no longer able to send email)
    20mb attachment size limit

I'm also forcing (well trying) to automate the cleanup on certain folders. Deleted mail is 5 days, I wanted calendar entries to get flushed after 60 days but that got rejected.

What you really need is support from management, and then some sort of user training. We will be showing users how to create .pst's, but they will be stored on the person's workstation, so it will not be backed up. Many times you find that it's internal documents, that can be shared through a sort of portal, that are forwarded to 10-20 people. Show the users how to create links. Another feature that I used in Lotus Notes when people complained that they needed more space, is to sort all documents by size. Show them that the 8mb funny.mpeg file that they have in their mailbox isn't needed 8 times.

Again I stress...support from management and a signed policy will go a long way. Also it doesn't hurt to attach a cost per mb when someone goes over quota. If some departments want more space, then it's simple...bill them =-)

If you want less issues with censorship move north of the border.

Up here in Canadiana, after 10pm, some channels play erotic content (gotta love being french canadian). Even movies that end up on the CBC (government owned stations) after 9pm are not censored.

I've watched serveral episodes of the Sopranos, on another canadian channel where Tony gives people the big F-You.

I guess with all the cold weather there's nothing else to do up here than swear and shag.

  7. Notes... on IBM Desktop Linux Pledge, One Year Later · · Score: 1

Yeah it's one of the reasons that we slowed our migration to linux and are actually going to citrix instead.

Sure notes has a web client, but having tried to optimize it, I can say that it's not really polished and ready to be used like that. Notes has been bloating since v4 and it's gotten progressively slower. A complete rewrite for linux would be nice =-)

I guess with the advent of notes being able to use db2 as a backend, all will be possible in the future. The should really get cracking on a port...lots of places use lotus notes (but won't admit it)

Good luck with the move IBM, you'll sure need it!

This is kinda what's happening at my place of work. We've been given pagers but we're not getting compensated. If we answer good, if not, oh well better luck next time. If you did sign your life away then don't answer when they call. We're not cyborgs yet

I guess it's a matter of response time. When our systems are borked, I will use my personal connection to do a quick check. The clock starts then at 1hr of overtime. If I have to go into work, it jumps up to 3hrs.

Sometimes those late nights are peaceful, and when you come in the next day you're a hero.

  10. once thunderbird matures... on Which Organizations Have Standardized on Mozilla? · · Score: 1

Where I work we are migrating everyone to mozilla (300+ users). There have been a few complaints about speed when it comes to attachments and mozilla being the browser for all html in mozilla mail but that's pretty much it.

Some users are using outlook with our imap server and while they can send and receive attachments quicker there are still more issues. The cost of installing exchange is not worth a few minor inconveniences that will be resolved with newer Mozilla releases.

Mozilla mail/Thunderbird is almost there.Keep it up guys!!!

  13. Intel's fighting a losing battle on Pentium IV As A Budget Processor · · Score: 1

Who in their right minds thinks that a price cut will affect the sales of the P-4. True that Intel has a marketing monster, but when people are shown benchmarks, you realize that a bigger number after the P does not mean anything.

Intel knows that the product they are trying to sell is shoddy, but yet they insist that we really need it. with rambus as an added "feature", it makes it even more appealing.

Even hardcore Intel fans are realizing that there are other viable and cost effective solutions.

999$ by Q4, now that's funny. What kind of systems will they be selling? with the amount of bloatware around, a 64mb system with a small HDD doesn't cut it (XP anyone?).

You can't just a processor by the speed of it's clock...but intel seems to think so.

  14. how can you patent something a billion years old on Who Owns Your DNA? · · Score: 1

DNA has been around since the beginning of times. i don't he how a few companies who've been around for a few years should have the rights to decide who owns it or not. we are not raw materials, but i guess since we use trees and animals (which have DNA) as then, we must be no different. i don't see how privacy will stiffle their innovation. are the researchers robots or rocks? don't they have their own DNA that they could use? next thing you know a company will patent the wheel or fire and collect a lot of back royalties for anyone who used these items throughout the ages. make you wonder what kind of world we are in now.
