Nah, seriously. This is what IT people, programmers, etc had to deal for over a decade. Now the same "experience" is available to general public I guess. Maybe they will understand better why we have a habit to curse them.
Windows XP 64-bit does not run 16-bit apps. No big deal, eh? But many, many, many titles have been shipped (and still shipping!) using older InstallShield. Guess what? These _installers_ are 16-bit apps. And installer not working equals to "this app does not run" for practically all users. Do you think XP 64-bit is an "alternative to Windows"?
Ask yourself - how would you've done it on Unix? Well - Perl/tk may be not an option, but definitely you can write a no-GUI program to receive data from your serial port and store it somewhere. Then make a small web-server (plenty of options - no need to install apache or stuff) and serve your data in graphical form to a web-browser.
First - I don't think it would have any "real-world value". Using words like "warez" may have some "real-world value" but I think the moment some misspelled word becomes a dissident symbol, Google would have to filter it out.
Second - let's all not forget that Chinese don't quite "spell" it when writing. I don't know how well (if at all) bayesian filtering and stuff would work for "kanji" (or how do they call it?)
To play GrandPrixLegends, IL2, rFactor maybe -hardcore sims that are not available on consoles. That's if you ask me. As for (legacy) apps, I would much rather have Windows in MacOSX VMWare (or similar quality virtual PC).
7-odd billion dollars. Let's suppose that Pixar employees work for peanuts and every movie is a hit and they net $200mil with each one (I'm generous today). That would take 35+ titles to bring those 7-odd billions back. Seems unlikely. OTOH - maybe Disney _needs_ something to prevent their image going _completely_ through the floor... They need someone to go to Disneylands, for example, etc... Still... Looks like a bubble.
Uhm, you mean it takes _more_ time? My current PC is, what, 4 or 5 years old. Sure - it has been upgraded several times till only a case and monitor are left of original config, but still - I guess in its original config (1GHz CPU, 256 RAM etc...) it would be still quite useable even today. These days it's no comparison to mid 90s rush when 1-2 year old PCs were basically garbage. But ok, Macs are not PCs, so may be it's different there.
Well, I suppose this is what "BETA" in Gmail logo stands for. Good thing all current Gmail users are hence beta-testers, otherwise they would've had a serious reason to complain.
Yeah, using/. for stock market advise is about as insightful as using it for pickup/sex tips... In other words it's on par with asking a blonde whore about Linux configuration, yeah.
Well, actually I don't have much problems with dupes on some _important_ topics. Stuff that matters, you know. It's when such... uhm, how do I say it... crap snippets get _duped_ whereas many, many readers think they should not have been posted even the first time, it's this that makes us somewhat angry.
Hahaha....!!! Micro$oft pwned joo!!11 LOL!
Surprised?

Disclaimer: I don't own XBOX and am not going to.

Are you sure certain game controllers have not just had sex with TV remotes?

Why do (some) mac people feel the need to but into any discussion with their pro-mac trolls?

Why do (some) linux people feel the need to but(t) into any discussion with their pro-linux trolls?
To rephrase what somebody else wrote here:
1) Profit!
2) ???
3) Itanium.
I'm pretty sure it's just going to be a rucksack.
Duuude... Your sig, your comment... Pure... synergy.
Would that be GNU/Mario/Linux or Mario/GNU/Linux?
But look at the bright side: you can eat all the chocolate you want!
Women? JPEGs don't play games!

Back in the day we called it "Floppynet". Heh-heh... (cough) Give me my walking stick, kid.

I wonder if we all submit this link as a story (several times each?), will /. editors finally get a point?

Give them a break, they are Perl programmers after all. ;)
They can boot Windows XP and when it turns they kick it in the nuts.
Yeah, and then they will have to rename that anime to "Vampire Hunter Pentium", right?
