We just had an ask slashdot discussion about this a while ago. Its kinda weird when you read an article posted on a site about a discussion on the same site... I got nothing....
Obviously somebody spends too much time on irc. Ohhhh I know, they could have set the channel to +m, and +v'ed all the MSN clients only. Or maybe they could get an IRCOP to handle things. Just kidding, shizzle my fizzle.
Actually I do a lot of recording myself, and I've never used pro tools before, although I have heard great things.
If you are looking for a good alternative to pro tools, I am quite happy with my Tascam US-428 (http://www.tascam.com) and Cool Edit Pro 2.0(Multitrack recording)(http://http://www.syntrillium.com/).. Infact, I just recorded an eight track demo for my friends who are in a little band, and I can tell you the quality is pretty damn good compared to the price of recording in most studios(Some run about $100 an hour). Anyway, thats my two cents.
Seriously, if it's not one thing it's another, "I hate Microsoft, that's why I'll buy an X-Box and get a mod-chip and stick it to them," while they're secretly relishing in the fact of having an x86 gaming console that can run Linux. Microsoft win's either way. Anyway, I'm not sure if we're all hypocrites or just different fanatics posting on different stories. Personally, I'm a hypocrite, bash away.
I know I'm not the only one out there thinking...

That this is one small step for man, one giant leap towards holodecks being a reality;).
''I don't think the oil or car companies understand what a significant breakthrough this is,'' Meland said... If Tilley succeeds, it ''completely changes our whole picture on energy, how to use this energy to free the planet from fossil fuel.''
I bet you anything that we don't hear another peep about this (except maybe a repeat) again.
I have asthma, I've had asthma all of my life. I have to take a pill in the morning, and an inhaler around when I have attacks. I will have this for the rest of my life, and most probably will get worse. How the hell are a bunch of religious morons going to tell me that this is what god wanted for me? I sure as helld on't want it.
Well, *duh*. Entertainment is supposed to be enjoyable...And *newsflash!* Enjoyable things are addictive! Like sports...taking walks...shopping...sex! If it wasn't, then we as humans wouldn't seek it out so often, and it wouldn't enrich our lives - We'd turn into very dull people.
NO NO NO NO! Entertainment is not supposed to be addictive. I have a brother who used to play everquest, until I finally smacked some sense into him. Most people that spend a lot of time on the computer have addictive personalities. Sony designed that game for it to only be enjoyable for someone who spends a SHITLOAD of time playing. Anyway, good news is that he hardly spends time on the computer now, and spends his time fucking and working out. Now that's a life!
The thing looks just like a cellphone. It already has a speaker and a mic. I think it would take very little to squeeze one in there. That would reduce one more thing in my pocket!
It is highly unlikeley that we will ever see this happening. They say that eventually you will be able to bring the disk to your friends house, blah blah blah, play it on any system. You know what that means for the game company? Less money! If John Doe can play the game anywhere, he only buys 1 disk, as opposed to 2 to play on the new console of the month.
Dare is very effective. When I lived in Florida, in 5th grade every Thursday we had a police officer come in and talk to us about drugs etc. He never really said how we'd turn out, he just kind of told us the facts about it, and well, I don't plan on ever doing drugs, nor would I ever consider drinking. I guess the effectiveness really depends on what kind of person you are.
If the ZD numbers are to be believed about NT's performance, and I see no reason to disbelieve them, the NT server that ZD tested should be able to serve 359.9 million hits per day. According to http://www.microsoft.com/backstage/bkst_cs_support online.htm Microsoft Support Online gets approximately 2.3 million page views a day. Even supposing that each of those page views generates 100 hits each, that would mean that Microsoft Support Online only gets 230 million hits per day, far under what the tested NT server can do. Theoretically, just one NT server like the one that ZD tested should be able to handle this load. Microsoft uses 6.
What's that, I hear someone scream? But Microsoft Support Online involves dynamic content? Well, the ZD test was only about static content. I'm so glad to know that it was relevant to the real world. Aren't you?

I find it interesting that Slashdot is listed before CNN ;).

That has to be the hardest I've laughed in years. Shit powered car.. bwahaha.

I'm a computer science manjor... they do need someone to program engineer in a box 2.0 don't they ;)?
I was just trying to be funny but yeah that's true too.
"The idea has been around for a while, and some scientists are skeptical."
Jesus freaking christ, when are scientists not skeptical?

Not good news for those that like to mutter curses to the morons on the other end of the phone.
>Popular science is the same magazine that >predicted that we'd be using zero emmisions >vehicles by now too.
>We do. They're called bicycles.

Well, if they were convicted they probably aren't good enough compared to those who get away with it.
I can see it now, "Buy a new PV, see how fast your computer does nothing!"
I don't know, but if you have to pay for a piece of software, I think the company should be held liable. After all, you are PAYING for it.
