  1. What's with the price? on The Cable TV Industry Is Getting Even Less Popular (fortune.com) · · Score: 1

I'll never understand the price point of cable. It's not like you have full access to every show at any time like you have Netflix, and with only 24 hours/day (only a few of which you are awake, at home, and able to watch TV) you'll never come close to watching the entire library of programming available (especially with all the adverts tossed in). Why not charge a respectable $30-$50 a month for the entire package of channels, then maybe charge a small premium for the sports/movie channels? I'm also curious as to why they have so many damn adverts during shows. What are my cable fees even going towards?

  2. Too bad the 8 people are everyday joes, and the other 2 are people in power that could make regulations to make it better.

I guess a bigger question is - why didn't the players just force Ogg? Bundle in software to convert the music. Smaller file sizes, same great sound.

  5. That's one of the greatest problems these days. Companies not paying enough to properly train employees, and employees not getting paid enough to actually care about the job they do.

  6. Never understood why MP3 was so popular on MP3 Is Not Dead, It's Finally Free (marco.org) · · Score: 2

Never understood why, in a time of .ogg files, MP3 was always the defacto format. Ogg was free, and had better a far better compression:quality ratio. The fact that MP3 was ever popular is mindblowing. Glad to hear it's finally free, though.

  7. I'm confused... are the assets gone? on Disney Chief Bob Iger Says Hackers Claim To Have Stolen Upcoming Movie (hollywoodreporter.com) · · Score: 1

Did they take everything that was done and then delete it from Disney? I'm not sure what the big deal is, otherwise... release it in Theathres. People that planned on seeing it will see it. People that didn't, won't.

  8. I really like having Linux as the backbone to my device. The amount of freedom and ability to script in tasks is one of the main reasons why I've gone with Android over iOS. Hopefully this new OS allows the same level of freedom and scriptability.

Reminds me of that time Nintendo stock shot up because of Pokemon Go. If investors are this fucking stupid, I have no idea how the market even exists anymore. Like, why buy stock if you're not going to bother doing any research on the company/stock you are about to purchase?!

I didn't see anything in the summary or the article about Proton. To further that point, why would you use Gmail if you want something secure, and what the hell is a $5 gmail mailbox?

I use it, and I haven't had any issue. It's not as nice as gmail, but if you're looking for a relatively simplistic layout, and encrypted email - Proton is solid.

Sure there's the whole "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality, but I mean, a screen door "ain't broke" but it's also not the best idea to fit your front door with. A Speedo "ain't broke" but it's also not best for winterwear... Time for the dinosaurs to upgrade. The money spent now would be cheaper than the ever-increasing maintenance fees over time.
