Debian sets it up by default. If other distros don't, they should.

Editing text files is no harder than editing the Registry. However, there should be good defaults, because most people won't do either.

When you do that (at least in every X version I've ever tried), it doesn't resize your desktop. It zooms in on your desktop, but it's still using a "virtual desktop" at the original resolution, so you have to scroll around to see your entire desktop.

I've read a while ago that the RandR extension was supposed to fix this, but I haven't heard anything about it recently.

I've toyed with the Superdrive on a PowerMac G4, and it seemed to burn (not including compression) at about 1x (in other words, 30 min of video take about 30 min. to burn). This is with the default compression settings - obviously, it's quicker to burn if you compress more. DV video seemed to compress at about 0.5x (on a 733Mhz G4 w/ AltiVec).

However, if I were burning a DVD, I'd probably plug in my computer, not run it off batteries.

Yes, Adobe Photodeluxe was the most pain in the ass program I've ever used. But Photoshop Elements is quite good.

Basically, if you're a professional, you or your company can easily afford the $600. If you're not, you don't need the full Photoshop.
