    I absolutely agree that incredible HUBRIS is being exhibited by those wishing to minimize the significance of this event. It is easy to accept that "engineering can accomplish anything", maybe not so easy to accept "human ignorance, error and cowardice can destroy anything".

    Sorry to hear your experience. I have been satisfied with Earthlink as an alternative to local cable RoadRunner/TimeWarner, same price, but the ISP I send my payment to is just contracted to Earthlink. Haven't had any problems for many years, I'm sure their billing is outsourced overseas. I feel a sense of security having them, they were a progressive company once upon a time, made a few bad investments, but they are still around. Yeah, dial-up is for the same people who were paying a monthy fee to "lease" their rotary phone from ATT after the breakup, but how would YOU handle it? Call all your customers and ask them why they are paying more than they have to?

    Every time you open your wallet, it is a political act. Think about every transaction individually, with any prejudices you may rightfully have. No one situation will change the world, but cumulatively, an effect will be made. Just ask a marketing guy.

    Like saying slavery is acceptable as long as the slaves are treated in an enlightened manner. Just a flaw in the constitution, which would take an amendment to correct, but it won't happen since the multibilliondollar arms industry will not let it happen.

    Doubtful there would be an "on" switch. Nobody realistically expects to get a computer back, this just allows them to put a big sticker on the laptop saying, "if you steal it, it wont work". Thieves wont care.

    Yes, that sounds reasonable. The criminal element has taken advantage of the Wikileaks chaos to hijack the Wikileaks name and use it to sabotage their enemies. Easy to make a misjudgement in this situation and they take advantage of this. Smart guys.
