I have my phone set to automatically go into driving mode when I get in my care with the option set txt the caller/texter that I'm driving and will get back to them. No distractions and it works well.
Apple isn't the publisher here. Apple isn't even handling the payments. No traffic needs to be handled by them and they *still* want 30%. For what? It makes no sense. It didn't for books. It doesn't for Office365 and it doesn't for this. Apple just has this crazy idea that if it runs on their "magical" hardware they should get a cut. Fuck that!
Yes it's silly to dump all that water just because of a tiny bit of pee but it's also silly for people to say "Oh, but LA is sooo thirsty." Water is a local resource. It can't just be piped down to LA. And for the people of Portland it's not that much water. When I lived there one thing I never needed to worry about was saving water. It rains a lot there. 38M gallons is about 20 seconds flow of the Columbia river. My water bill was so low as to be negligible; I literally never had to think about it. That may be hard for people in drier parts of the country to grasp but there's no reason to Portland should feel bad. For all we know that reservoir was due for a cleaning anyway.
We got standing desks a few weeks ago. I stand for a few hours in the morning and a few in the afternoon but sit for lunch. I find that it works best to shift slowly from foot to foot and rock back and forth a bit. I also switch up my stance between wide and narrow and even stand on one leg now and again. You might thing that sounds distracting but I feel more focused while working than I do sitting down.
Price isn't even the main sticking point with me. I recently paid someone a lot of money to burn off bits of my eyes with a laser precisely so I wouldn't have to wear glasses... and it was the best money I've ever spent. There's no way I'm paying another grand to get glasses back no matter how cool they are.
MS is trying to push people off XP. There are other alternatives after all. Many of them are even free. How bad does it make Linux and Chrome look if they can't compete with an 12+ year old OS that MS is actively trying to push people off of?
A few weeks ago I was talking to a high school age son of a friend. The kid studies music in school but still had no idea who Bob Dylan was. This isn't quite that bad but it's close.
I can't see anyone getting a subscription just to use these apps. These are more like addon apps for people who use Office already and happen to have an iPad.
Most people who are going to be using this are just using it for viewing / displaying anyway. If you don't want to pay just do the creating in Open Office or some such.
And I think that's the right approach. Judging the success of research based on how many product ideas they turn out will result in misguided research. It is a failure of the MPs on the product teams for ignoring what MSR is doing. That does seem to be changing but it used to be very bad.
Games mostly but the news reader is good too. Games are obvious because they should be full screen anyway. The metro mail app is also good. And I often have the twitter app snapped to one side while in desktop mode. And same goes for hulu. So yeah, people do.
Just like having piles of stuff taking up all available space in your home is a problem having a 20 TB media collection could be a sign of a larger problem. I'd recommend going through it and getting rid of the things that will never be watched / listened to again or can just be downloaded again. Then worry about backing up what's left.
That's because of Win32 where the average user has way more control over the system than they need or is good for them. I overstated it that Win32 goes away with Win8 but the direction is clear; get users out of win32 and into the winrt sandbox and security will improve. MS as always needs to do a better job marketing this aspect.
Metro gets rid of the security nightmare that is win32. In the long run this will save industry both time and money. Sure it will cost a bit in up-front training but it's worth it in the long run.
A business isn't the same thing as a private club. When we get together via our representatives and agree to grant a business license there is a social contract that goes along with it. We give them money for goods and services and they sell those goods and services in a fair way. If these bigots don't want to sell to the public they should go do something else. If there is a real need for their business the forces of capitalism will find someone willing to do it.

For the record, I don't agree with the -1 troll mod. It was a pretty good response to my comment imo.

Also responsible for much of the graphics in NT.

It's easy enough to get a free 107GB of storage.
Perhaps you're not old enough to remember it but back when MS was evil they caught all kinds of hell for giving away free things with their OS.

I wouldn't even say it's evil, just necessary.

The on screen keyboard works well on the surface. I'm using it right now.
How do you type on an ipad in bed?
I wouldn't buy a car that has this unless it also works with other phones.
"Segregationists weren't practicing a right."
You need to go back and look at the history. Religion was often cited as justification for discriminating against black people.

Lol. Obvious troll is obvious. The classic "See how many stupid arguments I can get away with" troll. You did quite well.
