Bingo. Where I work lots and lots of people carry their MBPs from meeting to meeting in style but most of them run win7. They've bought into the Apple "style" but still want to get things done. I don't get it personally. I've never thought of my computer as a fashion accessory but I'm not going to judge them. Buy what works and you like.
Reboot after installing what? I can install kernel drivers just fine on windows without needing to reboot most of the time. Apparently on a Mac you can't do this. You have to reboot every time a kernel driver is installed. Crazy but true.
Tomato / Tomato. The pro is a great tablet because it does so much more than any other tablet *and* a great laptop because it's portable and well built.
Not sure if they actually have a trademark but every Shari's I've ever seen looks the same and you can always tell which Chinese food place used to be a Pizza Hut. I bet they have their look trademarked and if you tried to open up a Walter's that looked just like a Shari's they would sue you.
practice in the restaurant industry. Lots of times you can tell exactly what fast food place they are building just by the shape. MS would just need to change one or two cosmetic things to not violate if they do already anyway. Not much to see here.
1) I don't care. I would be fine if it was instantly made unavailable when the subscription runs out. My skydrive is fully synced at all times. If your only copy is in the cloud you get what you deserve when it rains. 2) Buying more space is cheap.
That's not how it works. Everything I have in skydrive is synced to each of my systems. So my docs are always kept up to date yet are still available when I go off the grid.
I get that you don't like Win8 but you can use regular apps on the same screen with a metro app pinned to the side. I do this with the Hulu app and it works great.
Perhaps it depends on the game. Counter Strike gives an advantage to those that load the map the quickest. Being able to get to the bottom of the ramp in Dust2 to counter snipe the inevitable sniper is huge. Just sayin.
My point is that this is more like a skeletool. It may not be as good at any one thing but when you add up all the different things it's good enough at you get something that's pretty great.
I brought up RT only because it's the same basic physical design.
We will see. But even if it doesn't gain a huge chunk of the tablet / ultrabook market share does that mean it has failed? OSX is still at about the same market share it's always been at but people don't say it has failed. However it works out I'm glad to see MS try something bold and not just letting the OEMs race to the bottom. I wish they'd done the same thing back in the Tablet PC days to be honest.
Many years ago MS put a Windows Key on their keyboard and it mostly went unused if not unnoticed. The beauty of Windows 8 is unlocked by the discovery of how to use that key. In many ways Windows 8 is better on the desktop than Windows 7. Once you learn how to use the Windows Key and realize that the Start Screen is really just a large Start Menu the scales drop from your eyes and everything is clear.
"they just bought a Mac because it looks cool"

And Apple is a toy vendor. Not a PC vendor.
McDonalds is the top PC vendor, if you include Big Macs.
The pen in the Cintiq has tilt and better pressure support. Just sayin.
Vista became the second most popular OS of its time, second to XP. Hardly a failure.

Oh, and I'll counter this:

You ripped a DVD with a MB Air? I knew they were magical and all but that's pretty impressive.

Schools could just shut off the wifi at lunch.
They don't run very much software so teachers don't have to worry about them loading games and crap on them.
Nah, win8 is an overblown concern. The desktop isn't going away and steam will keep working fine on it.
What does Windows CE have to do with anything? WP8 isn't based on CE and I have to assume that you've never used a Nokia 920 or an HTC 8x.

I know this isn't what your point was getting at but why would switching to macs change anything? This is for both macs and pcs.

I think MS has an option for a "private" cloud where you get to keep the servers under your control and you still get cloud like features.
Does it support a wacom?

One thing that helped boost my older system was switching the drive to an SSD.
