    If fights are fair they are also infrequent. Of the three countries in the "Axis of Evil" we went into Iraq because Iran and N Korea would have been fairer fights. Don't get me wrong, if you are going to pick a dog to kick I'd pick the chihuahua over the pit bull too.

    Yeah, but the bible says a bunch of other things that are questionable at best. Do you really expect us to pick through them and use the ones we like? The scientific method has brought us much more tangible results (though not always desirable) in a shorter amount of time. So if I have to pick a side I will go with science every time.

    Big mistake. He should have just created us and left us alone. It's like the prime directive in Star Trek. He should have just set us on the path he wanted us to be on and let us go. Tinkering here and there to improve things will only make things worse.

    If paying a large corporate entity full price for a product when they clearly market a cut rate version for non-commercial use lets them sleep at night then I guess it is fair.

    I don't have an answer to your second question. I can't find anything fair about the gap between the poverty of the third world and the abundance the larger nations.
    Sure, large corporations are a part of the problem but it is much more complicated than that.

    If malicious code is able to crash your app it is likely also able to make it run arbitrary code. It is far better to respond with an error than to crash.

    The compiler isn't a component in the end user system at all. It is the software used to build the system. A buffer overrun almost always causes the app to crash so it is safe to assume that the build system at MS does not have an overrun.
    So I have no idea what you are talking about and suspect that neither do you.

    That's funny. I have a camera that I can't run on my IMac because there are no OSX drivers (software). I Plug it into my XP box and it "Just works".

    I think anyone can use Microsoft's browser technology. With Visual Studio comes a sample that shows how to roll your own browser. The IE objects classes and libs are all right there for use.
    I doubt that the guy who makes Maxthon has to pay extra to reuse the IE components.

    It is not just game availability that makes my PC a better game platform. It's also the low cost of upgrades. Every two years or so I drop about $300-$500 on a new (but not top of the line) mainboard and video card to keep up with the latest games. My imac on the other hand has been relegated to a part time MP3 and web browser position because that's about all it can do with 10.2 loaded on it.

    Technically it is installed on top of an emulator which is software. It's the emulator that talks to the hardware so one could argue that it doesn't go against the EULA.

    I agree that it was ahead of its time. I think Apple must have known this at the time too and it's a shame they didn't follow through when the market was there.
    The Arm processor is the bright spot in the whole affair and Apple's investment in the young company at the time allowed them to show a profit on the Newton despite it being a market failure.

    The PDA craze came and went. With the tight competition came lower prices. The profit margins on them now are not large enough to interest Apple.

    This is not a good thing. One thing that keeps us from using WMDs again is that we saw how terrible they are. If we make them just as deadly but less destructive they will appear to be less terrible and the blood thirsty powers that be will have less hesitation to using them.
