  1. I am a rational shopper and ads just annoy me. on Google, Yahoo Cry About Ad-Blocking (cnbc.com) · · Score: 1

I am a rational shopper who uses search engines to get the big picture on what is on offer across the entire market and to determine what is most appropriate for the budget I have allowed. I do not buy on impulse and will wait months for a cheaper item on a slow boat because I do plan that far in advance.

I block advertising because it just makes me annoyed and clutters up my screen, MY SCREEN.

On the rare occasion that I do see an advert for a new product or service idea that gets my interest I will notice the new product in the ad, but then still go and use my normal survey method to find what I really need. So unless you have the only one of a given product your ad is just as likely to help your competition as it is you. If you do have a monopoly I am not likely to buy your product at all because of the lack of competition.

Apple did the wrong thing by talking about it publicly, now every despot and dictator in the world knows that forcing them to open up phones is an option, if they can control if Apple can do business in a given region. They can block the MAC addresses of Apple products selectively so that even a smuggled Apple phone will not be able to connect to the phone towers that said despot controls.

And the phone will end up cracked open one way or another, in the end, but just at a far greater cost thus consuming money that could have funded education and healthcare.

This is why we need multiple Internets where people are separated by IQ bands. 25. All they need is multilayer dichroic reflectors. on UK Pilots' Union Calls For Laser Pointers To Be Classed As Offensive Weapons (theguardian.com) · · Score: 2

A dichroic reflector has the opposite behaviour to the narrow band-pass dichroic filter therefore a stack of dichroic reflectors can block the limited number of spectral bands covered by the majority of commercially available solid-state lasers. If these layers are also electro reflective they are only active when switched on (or off) therefore their use can be limited to altitudes and locations of maximum risk.

This solution is 100% effective for common laser pointers whereas a ban will be as useless as a ban on pointy objects to stop stabbings. Sociopaths and fools will always find a way to get hold of such technology, particularly when the active part is so small and easily concealed.
