imho Solaris is still strong, and Linux (sorry GNU/Linux) is gaining speed. In all honesty, would you run your 30,000 employees through linux servers? Or would you use the 7 nines of Solaris? oh, wait. actually, i think win2k's active directory could handle it....
Solaris is rock solid, and will continue because of the proprietary systems. Damn, even their x86 Solaris is Rock solid. Oracle needs rock solid for mission critical. This is why Sun owns the mid to high end market......
wtf does this have to do with the discussion, and better yet, with this thread?
the idea, which you have yet to focus on is such: if one is being told about a security issue, but does nothing to fix it, THEY only have themselves to blame.
Let's approach the situation a bit different: Microsoft makes IIS. Customer has been warned about using IIS, and new security issue. Continues to use IIS without a fix. Gets hacked. Whose fault is it? Must be the guy hacking, eh?
'you' was told about the insecurities, and did nothing about it. In the end, any law enforcement will infact say: "we'll see what we can do, however, NEXT TIME LOCK YOUR SHIT UP, YOU DUMB ASS, ESPECIALLY AFTER BEING WARNED."
it may, however, not be said in such a condescending manner. Rather, the same message would be put across politely, because of courteousness, politeness, etc.
Remember: the ownice is on the owner, not the thief.
you: Yeah, some guy just walked in and took my tv cop: Was your door locked? you: well, er, no. I left it wide open. In fact, Someone even left a sign on the front lawn saying "Steal his tv", but i thought nothing of it. cop: Don't you think that locking your door might have prevented this? you: just because it was open, and a sign said do it, doesnt mean that the thief should be allowed. cop: welcome to the 'REAL' world....you moron.
dont you mean "they had free drinks that night. Afterwards, Trevor was absolutely PLASMONIC, when he 'drove' me out of this world (in the back of the taxi)...." ahem.
Methinks that the US government is so damned corrupt, (and capitalist for that matter) that when the lawyers for the states provide damning evidence to beat Microsoft to a pulp, Microsoft waves its almighty dollars in the faces of Senators and Congressmen.
which they can do, easily, when you bring in the printer for warranty purposes...(ink residue is left in the printer. believe me when I say that they can tell) 2 things i know about in this life - ink jet printers and driving fast. (can't be late for work, can I?)
forbidden = making warranty invalid. (yes, you can dowhatchalike with YOUR printer, but you wont get it replaced for free under warranty if you dont follow the rules....) granted, if your warranty is expired, do whatever the hell you like with your printer. Chances are, you'll use it for a boat anchor tho...

not to mention that 100ghz is silly to contemplate (mainly because of frequency levels)...
the ghz trap is working, even here at slashdot....
maybe you should try and work there...then you'd might offer differing info...

the cracker must feel guilty tho...
The onus is on the owner, once again.
wow. tension.
anywho, ---> ati would be considered 'shrouded in secrecy' in order to not let anyone know about the 'mickey mouse' operation they are running...

makes one wonder if Bruce Perens was 'let go' because of this.....

Does this mean that Chalk producers will start inflation on their chalk prices? (I mean, if the demand IS there.....)
this is not news
it is in my physics text book from 3 years ago. why do these folks at cnn, and conversely Slashdot believe this to be "new" news?
ahem.

Consider this:
:
if you want to do the same with your Mac that you'd do with your Linux box, you'd be editing config files.
so,
the equation is
$1500 for a mac and have to edit httpd.conf anyway
or
$ keep existing PC, and edit the fscking httpd.conf file.
hmmmmmmmmm.
no brainer.
(*httpd.conf was used solely for the purpose of example.)
unfscking believable...
level 2 pirate school teaches you to make modifications to your arrs, into darrs...
level 3 shows the pirater to change from darrs, to garrs....
garr, its pirating time, matey....
i read that aswell....
hhmmmmmm,
a joke maybe??
hell, 'penetration tests'?
Oracle's take would be:
'Unseeable'
.
hmph.
If anarchy weren't so unstable, I'd be an anarchist.
an excellent sig file if I ever saw one.....
oh, right.
the box probably doesnt even have Microsoft's name on it. It has the third party tranlators name on it....
hmmmmmm.
too late. its already been done...Government has already cornered the market. We all have Sin or SS numbers, and we all pay tax.
sin/ss = license to live
tax = license fee
welcome to the free world. please leave your pocket book at the door....
2 to the power of NEAL. (Cowboy that is);
that should acurately describe the size...
its about time!
lets get it here in NA...then we'll watch those mpaa bastards squirm.....

What a laughable democracy.
1-It's not as expensive as you think.
2-We make money off ink AND the paper.
1 - it is more expensive than 35$ to build a printer
2 - the money we make off ink is probably 4:1 in relation to paper.
