Google is a poor indication of os domination. Many Linux installations never connect to google. On top of that, Google has never had a connection from more than 1 of my pcs thanks to ssh. I also have a dual boot win98 pc that's only used for games. I'm sure others fall into that group as well.

Better late post then never but who pays for unsolicted traffic? I get almost 10,000 packets an hour dropped by my nat/router. This is based on almost 700 hours of statistics. Being conservative this is easily gigabytes a month, even more when I have any port forwarding in use.

I don't see how an isp could seriously do this without a major crack down on security and unfortunately, drops in usability for end users.

A little side note. I'm waiting for the day when companies and home users alike have a classification for how much bandwidth can be allotted to them.

Besides the fact this was pointed out a number of times in a preavious story. Did you ever bother to read the page you're quoting from? Those are "featured sites". This is from msn's explination of featured sites... "Featured Sites are links that MSN Search editors believe are likely to be particularly relevant and useful. These sites are chosen from ones published by MSN affiliates, partners, sponsors, and advertisers, as well as other sites proven to be especially popular among our users."`

It appears that you should fault the editors at search.msn.com. The first web directory link (albeit the 7th link down) is to www.linux.org. I'm sure their search engine has faults just like google but this isn't one of them.

Until the irs wants to take responcibility for who they link to for doing taxes online, I'll stick with paper.
BTW, I did look at some tax sites and one of them listed looked very shady. No contact info (phone numbers, mailing address, email) was available at the site. The site also didn't have any signs of belonging to the BBB or any online privacy groups like TRUST.
If someone gets screwed over by one of these companies, I think they'll blame, the IRS. Since they're making this push, I would agree with them.

  25. Re:Games fail. on Why Do Games and Game Studios Fail? · · Score: 2, Interesting

At times I also think the problem is the programmers don't care. These days I'm getting quite put off by PC games because most of the time they seem like they get dumped into the market before they are finished. I'll use Alpha Centauri as an example of that. I assume the game did so poorly that they had to drop support for the one expansion pack(which is another cheap tactic these days) Then once out there, any features that don't directly affect pvp(player vs player) gets ignored. I'll use Starcraft as an example since I'm very familiar with it. The ai's still have a number of bugs. The zerg custom ai at times does nothing but mine. Also there's the situation where the zerg ai loses all it's over lords because it won't build more despite being able to. There's also the problem where if an ai loses a building, it usually won't build something else in that spot and thus running out of perceived space. The map editor is also a big problem, if you'ver never played any of the use map settings type maps, you'd see there were a lot of great features that map hacker programs were needed to implement. In fact, I'm some what surprised vivendi hasn't taken time to harass them like they did with bnetd. So for the time being, I've dropped my support for almost all pc based games.
