While I heard a while back about one state that is requiring publically available source code
What use is the source code if you don't know that the binary in use on your voting machine is compiled from that opensource code or some other closed-source code?
My local garage is selling them, or similar ones and it has to state on the packaging that it is illigal to use, but of course they still sell them.

You can buy in-car stereo's that have USB connectors, then you could put them into any car. My car stereo has a line in, so I can plug any audio device into it.
They're both from Argos, you could probably get them cheaper from an internet only store. There were some more expensive though better brand name stereos at halfords, but I can't find any details on their website.
It seems that this has been around for a while. I just did a search for "John Smith" on the search by name page. There I found that certificate number 436 was registered on 18 February 2005.
Why did it take so long to reach slashdot, or is it a dupe?
Note: I'm not new here, but these things should be on slashdot a bit quicker, although it might have been an internal NASA thing for a while
To legally set up a GSM transceiver you would need to purchase a licence. Well, I'm sure thats the case in most countries anyway.
I know that the mobile phone companies in the UK spent a hell of a lot of cash to secure 3G licences, they wouldn't be too happy if you got to set up your own transceiver for free.
Yes, I know a handset is a transceiver, but that probably comes under some kind of different licence.
The P/E ratio is the ratio between the current share price and the earnings that Apple issued on each share.
If there is a high P/E ratio, it is AFAIK likely to be down to investors believing that the company will in the future improve on its earnings. The improvement in earning might take some years to foster, but when they do that P/E ratio will come down. I find it hard to believe that Apples' share price is high "because they're fashonable". Most shares are held by pension companies (or at least they are in the UK), and not individual investors. These pension companies employ people to research companies and determine whether to invest their clients money.
However, this would not explain the dot-com boom. I really don't know much about the stock market and its workings but want to know more. It seems to be a strange closed off world.
The whole page is 64KB, plus whatever Google sends which is probably at least another 100KB. I might try cutting down what I send by experimenting with AJAX. Thats another rainy weekend sorted!
Beware when using these maps for navigation. Google's postcode locations in UK are about a block out in my experience. Best crosscheck with multimap.com or map24.com before using them.
Google Maps API doesn't allow postcodes to be entered for the positioning. Everything is done with latitude and longitude. I got around this by determining the postcode of each campsite and then parsing that through Multimap. So, in fact I am using Multimap postcodes. I've also checked for a few campsites the maps on their websites and found that my code had picked out the correct location.
This last weekend I was trying to use the Cornwall tourist board website to look for a campsite. The problem with it (apart from the search not working in Firefox), was that you couldn't see exactly where in Cornwall each campsite is.
So, I have extracted the data of each site from the Cornwall tourist board website and have used it along with the Google maps API to create: Campsites in Cornwall
By the way, Cornwall is in the south-west of England.
I've been driving a 1994 Diesel Ford Fiesta now for nearly two years and I am 22, I passed my test just over two years ago. My Fiesta is in group 7 for insurance.
Insurance costs went as follows: 1st year: ~£1100 2nd year: ~£550
Next month when I renew I have been quoted £250. I will be 23 and have 2 years no claims discount.
Perhaps that Nova was a lot because Novas tend to be driven by boyracers. It is odd that you're paying so much for that BMW. I've heard that they tend to charge more for older cars than newer ones because you are more likely to take risks with an older car as they are not worth as much. I'm not sure if that is true though.
When did you get a UK licence? Have you got a UK licence?
Perhaps it is because you are on record owning a Nova. Maybe that causes a big drop in your insurance worthiness. Simply because, statistically Novas might cause large payouts because they tend to be driven by boyracers.
Sorry about that, I use Diesel which is about 90p/litre. I don't think the other poster was refering to Imperial Gallons as he was using $, and was therefore most likely American.
That is somewhat less than the $10 another poster mentioned, but it should give American readers some idea of just how cheap (relatively) their fuel is. Of course a large proportion of our fuel price is made up of tax. This has encouraged some of us to purchase small, fuel efficient cars whilst others can afford to drive around in large SUVs.
Google retains the right to put advertising on the map in the future.
That is intersting. Perhaps they will add advertising for cerain locations. They might add a starbucks logo over each of their coffee shops on the map. It would be a good way to pay for it and thus keep it free for developers.
Intresting. When I go to that site http://environmentalchemistry.com/, I get asked to disable my Adblock plugin before proceding. Somehow it can detect it.
I'm going to lose all of the moderations I've made to this discussion:(
For those of us who can put up with CRT, there are some great bargains to be had on eBay. My 17" CRT monitor recently died, so I was in the market for a replacement. I managed to get a nearly new 17" Dell monitor off eBay for £4! I had to collect it though, but it wasn't too far away.
That reminds me of a Red Dwarf episode. The one where they find kryton, he is preparing meals, washing and generally caring for the all female crew of a ship that crashed on some planet. The crew are all dead but he carries on looking after them.
I bought my phone to make calls andto send text messages and to have it wirelessly connect to my computer via bluetooth.
Agreed, the rest of the features on my T610 are perhaps sucking up the juice but without those extra features the number of sales would reduce and with it the cost would rise which might have made the phone prohibitly expensive for me.

They're great, although illigal to use in the UK!

The following are examples of what you can get in the UK, (USB in-car stereo wise):
Goodmans GCE7205USB2 CD/Radio - £89.99
Acoustic Solution CD/MP3 with USB Tuner - £99.99
They're both from Argos, you could probably get them cheaper from an internet only store. There were some more expensive though better brand name stereos at halfords, but I can't find any details on their website.

Thanks for that. I'm downloading it via Bitorrent as I type this. Seems to be plenty of others doing the same.
Is there a live cd distribution that contains Enlightenment? I can't be bothered with installing a distro just to try it out.
Wikipedia has an article on this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_Channel
It says that the UK had it 'on certain cable services'.

You can get pretty much anything related to cell phones. Expensive, but available.
AND, they're not hiding at all. They must think it's legal.
A working link.
Nope, I've not noticed this.

Have you had any accidents?

When did you last check the fuel price here in England? I'm paying ~90p per litre at the moment and it will probably continue to rise.
There are 3.79 litres to a US gallon, so that is:
0.90*3.79 = £3.41 per US gallon.
According to xe.com, £1 = $1.77.
£3.41*1.77 = $6.04.
That is somewhat less than the $10 another poster mentioned, but it should give American readers some idea of just how cheap (relatively) their fuel is. Which Version of PHP does this book apply to?
Which Version of mySQL does this book apply to?
Specifically, does it cover PHP5?

Are there any .torrent links for this new version of Eclipse?
Why is this in Your Rights Online? If you write a public blog then companies as well as your friends may well read it. Don't be suprised if they do.
Anyway this seems like a good thing - companies taking notice of their customers.

I think most people buy phones to make calls and send text messages, which would explain the announcement by vodafone (http://hardware.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/0
