I have had an online romance before. I honestly loved that girl, who shall remain anonymous (not like she reads/., never had a geek girl before). So it's not like I don't know what an online romance is like. If you really love the person, cybering can get pretty steamy.
But nothing compares to seeing the look in your lover's eye in that passionate moment during sex, or the warm feel of their skin against yours on a cold night in a warm bed. For guys, nothing compares to seeing your girl's face light up when you buy her flowers for no reason other than to show how much you love her.
There's no way text or video chat can ever come close to that...
apparently that's the same attitude sun is taking about its "open source" SW.. and now all the Open Source advocates are saying things like Sun "doesn't get it". So there.
As to the original poster, yes, f33r the/. effect.
The Quadro is basically a GeForce w/ higher clockrate and some hardware acceleration features, as well as having more RAM (there will inevitably be GeForces w/ 64 megs of RAM,.18 micron die, etc.)..
You're obviously somewhat ignorant of the advantages of the GeForce. The GeForce is:
1. Faster than a TNT2 Ultra (significantly) 2. Has much better image quality (John Carmack recommends that you type r_subdivisions 1; r_lodcurveerror 10000; or some such) Basically the GeForce has a higher clock speed, and it also takes a lot of work off the CPU while going through its processes and whatnot.
I don't exactly know when, but I read that the 64 meg version of the Quadro will cost about US$800.00.:)

too bad really, because, just like all the other members of/., that is a card I would love to have...
Hmm. According to FiringSquad, you wouldn't necessarily gain performance in say, Quake 3.
See, most 3d games (such as Quake 3) focus on speed and texture detail, thus giving way to low polys and perdy textures. However, CAD generally requires higher detail model manipulation ahd whatnot..
I sure hope Hercules' TNT2 Ultra (the Xentor 32) will be back because it's still one of the fastest things on the block but after Hercules went under, you couldn't get it anymore..
It's a moot point, since they aren't going to release it under the GPL license.

You want playable? Haha, you've come to the right person.:)
First, turn the sound quality to low, turn off dynamic lighting.. basically go into game options and turn off everything except for 'identify target.' OK, here's what you want to do: set cg_gibs to 0 (HUGE performance gain) set r_drawsun to 0 set cg_simpleitems to 1--it draws ammo boxes as 2d icons--it increases speed and you get used to it. like, you can see the megahealth behind the teleporter in q3test1.:) set r_subdivisions to 999 set r_picmip to 3 set cg_drawgun to 0 set cg_draw3dicons to 0 set cg_railtrailtime and cg_brasstime to 0
There's probably more I'm missing, but I hope that's a start. I'd upgrade to p2-450.. then you'll be pimping.

Speaking of Linux in mainstream places.. I saw Maximum Linux magazine at a *Vons*! (granted, the most technical article was rebuilding the kernel, for which documentation already exists, but imagine media had to jump on the bandwagon, right?:P) It was kind of cool though, it had an article on installing Linux (it came with a CD that had Mandrake 6.0 on it), an article on getting various games to work under Linux (Q3Test, Quake, Quake 2, Heretic, Civilization:CTP, and Unreal), and general newbie/intro stuff. What do you expect, it's a grocery store.
Oh yeah, just as a disclaimer: I am not affiliated with Maximum PC Network, Maximum Linux Magazine, or imagine media.;)
I think it's a bit scary when they just assume you have Redhat. What about us Slackers (heh).. or FreeBSD people? Devils like fragging too.

You don't need a Linux emulator for FreeBSD to run Linux programs--Linux programs are binary compatible with FreeBSD. :)

Actually.. they put em in sound cards now.. In fact.. the Soundblaster Live! Value has a DSP with the horsepower of a pentium 166. :)

I am aware of this. The GeForce aka NV10 is the first video card to support high poly counts while still giving the high framerates.

A little bit of info at Thresh's FiringSquad

It has some information about Quadro vs. NV10, and even some CAD-related benchmarks against cards like the GVX1.
