The users I'll be training are barely aware that there's a difference between CMYK on the color laser and RGB in the digital camera. They're NOT graphics professionals. That said, there's no reason why they cannot learn a few basic editing skills to put together a 2 color newsletter (b/w photos, non-black clip art) that they could distribute to all the residents of our nursing home facility. Heck, we could do that in MS Word if we were so inclined, but I prefer to use more appropriate tools so that we can also teach skills that are applicable to designing simple web pages. No, we're not planning on needing Pantone matching, but it would be nice to get our corporate colors correct.
this is exactly how the education version of Quark XPress used to work when my buddy was in college. by then, i had graduated and was using a copy provided by my employer to train others in its use.

if microsoft jumps the gun and starts reposessing computers from schools early, you KNOW this will be big news and will scare off other schools from using this kind of program to fill their classrooms with windows bloatware.
i'm not likely to buy products from walmart's online service anyway because they're the evil empire. but also the fact that IE7 is being forced down our throats, and the fact that it sucks, means any web services that are IE-only will be ones I do not bother to use.
turner could have likely won a countersuit against the govt agencies which were really behaving like a band of idiots, but the resulting legal fees and time spent in court would have been a pain in the ass. easier to settle out of court, but likely not that difficult to prove that terrorism junkies are full of shit.
vista, with its focus on DRM, and itunes, with it's "fairplay" drm, have competing interests, so it's no surprising that itunes and ipods would be undermined by microsoft, especially since their own player the zune was such a dog in the marketplace. microsoft for a long time has demonstrated that their "os ain't done til 1-2-3 won't run". why should vista be any different?
if you want the title of your article to get more hits on google, just add paris hilton to the title. great, just what we need is news services being more blatantly manipulative.
i have a collection of vintage synthesizers. although sometimes files can be transferred via midi, midi implementation is not perfect or standardized across these devices from multiple vendors. some of these devices require single sided diskettes to boot, or single or double sided disks for loading sound programs or samples. in fact, just a couple of months ago, i purchased 300+ double sided, double density diskettes for some devices that cannot read high density diskettes. so although you modern-day computer-philes are all agaga over your usb drives, don't forget that hundreds of thousands of devices need floppy drives to be useful, or else they'll end up in your landfill, poisoning your water supply. wouldn't you rather the scraggly musician play his old keyboard instead?
the article states that with these windmills, water will be replenished into the air from the oceans. how do we know this? how was this proven?
and if the water content of oceans diminishes, the salt content increases proportionately. that would threaten to bring dramatic change to the fragile balance of the environment for marine life.
when man plays with mother nature, we almost inevitably come out on the losing end. * drain the swamps in new orleans, then lose 60% of the land's ability to absorb water. * introduce pest-killing amphibians to the everglades, then they procreate without preditors and wipe out existing species. * water the deserts of nevada to make lush golf courses, then people in colorado go thirsty and firemen can't put out historically large forest fires covering hundreds of thousands of acres.
i think that the xxx domain should be required by pornographers, and anyone using a.com.net.edu etc domain to distribute pornography should have their domain taken back by icaan. i want a simple way to distinguish porn from the rest of the world to help us in our fight against spam, spyware, and other time and energy and money wasting crap.

what about the affect on global warming by cows? our desire to eat billions and billions of hamburgers is increasing global warming by 1) clear cutting forests (the amazon) to provide grazing land. that takes away trees that recycle CO2 and 2) the methane produced from all those cows doesn't help either.
this is AWFUL tech if there's no ability to turn OFF auto-location

and what about the proliferation of all kinds of advertising?
2) imagine going on a vacation, and every frkng 10 feet your cell phone bleeps because of new ads pouring in.
it's bad enough already with my T-Mobile MDA which doesn't have spam filters (even the crappy ms outlook is better for spam filtering than my phone). staying over with a chick, my phone beeped all night because of the damned spam ads. she thought i was just getting booty calls.

"working overtime?" gimme a break. spacecraft and robotic devices and test instruments do not have a workday, and are not limited by human weaknesses like the need for sleep, food, and bowel movements. if they work "beyond their expected life", that's a testament to good engineering. but please don't grant these manufactured goods human qualities.
dividing up the country into rural guntoting bumpkins and angry urban gun-toting youth is the wrong idea. handguns' sole purpose is to shoot people, so they should all be beat into plowshares.
if Brit Williams doesn't care about getting accurate and verifiable results from elections, he should just move to Russia where there's one candidate that you know is going to win regardless of the vote count. but as far as the rest of us are concerned, i'd rather have an expensive paper trail, one that requires removing all the Diebold CRAP that doesn't work in every blessed state, and implementing fair, trustable, and accurate vote counts for every single US citizen. failure to support such a measure is just freaking unamerican. even if the public elects some asshole who doesn't know what he's doing , we'd have the assurance that my neighbors at least voted for the jerk.
i refuse to do any more business with best buy because 1) their return policy sucks, forcing people to take instore credits instead of getting cash back for shit that doesn't work 2) their promotion of geek squad has reinforced the preponderance of low-paying tech jobs filled by idiots who don't know what they're doing that still ends up taking food off my table 3) has best buy ever been honest about the Mac when being an Apple dealer? no.
