Working adults with families do not have the time (Unless they neglect their children) to commit to some MMO's because say in WOW raids can take 4+ hours and multiple days to complete. Progression raids were even worse, 4+ hours a day 4-7 days a week just to advance past a boss or two until you start outgearing the content.
It would be reasonable to make the 5 man dungeons hard as hell, be progressive, and drop similar gear to 10 man raids. Make all raids 10 man, break them up into 4 boss segments and increase difficulty as well. In either case you can do one, the other, or both to rapidly gear. Maybe even final bosses the 25 or even 40 man variant but one boss with maybe an hours worth of trash to fight through.
You can still have EPIC, just not EPIC time requirements.

We get together and develop a open source updater that uses bittorrent to do updates, every user of the client keeps copies of all the addons and peices are sent to update the swarm. All clients check the addon hoster for a MD5 hash so it can validate the downlaods so bad people cant corrupt addons.
The community provides the bandwidth, you get an advertising platform, and hopefully people stay happy while we give Blizzard the finger.

Routing protocols get first shot, then HTTP(S)/Telnet(SSH)/POP3/IMAP/SMTP etc etc. Every other app is regulated to bulk. Then that 95% will never see latency of problems with their web surfing and even games such as WOW DOOM, Xbox live etc can get priority queues over bulk downloads.
Once it's done at the network level the same can be applied down to the user level with the packets as they're tagged.
What we lack is ways for routers to signal upstream routers for dynamic QOS to the customer network.
I do not think It will come to that. Mr Martin has enough people looking at him on both sides of the aisle about his clear preference towards telco that he may actually find it in his best interests to enforce this on Verizon Wireless.

If you used a online backup service like dropbox then you'd pay over 500 dollars to retrieve 1TB of data after a disaster.
I have local backup, but I keep a offsite backup of my data in case of a natural disaster.
