I hate to question the logic of engineers, but it does seem pointless to me to keep the cache size the same, but make it 8-way set associative.
1-way Set associative means that basically you can't store two numbers with the same lower bits. This isn't that big a deal, since memory is usually used fairly contiguosly (sp?), so the lower bits change a lot.
However, you do sometimes want to cache two address with the same lower bits, so to do this they came up with the idea of 2-way set associative, where you divide the memory in half, and make half of it a place to put the second-address with the same lower bits. I'm not very good with explanations.
But basically, say 4-way set associative was good enough not kick out cached values too early, then changing that to 8-way would halve the effective cache, without helping anything. They are banking on 4-way overflowed too often. Which I'm very surprised at, as games do tend to run in very small memory and code loops.
Agreed. I wanted to play red alert on my machine, but the cd had some copy right protection that made it unreadable on my cd player. I had to crack it and copy it to play it...
"Michael Simms: Both Tribsoft and Hyperion entered the market with the expectation that the Linux games market would be proportional to the number of Linux computers out there. "
It isn't? I would have expected that too. So what order is the function?
A group of us tried to combine the two efforts into one generic UI guideline, but like most of my projects, it collapsed when we realised how much work it would be.
Well, despite the spamming thing, the owners tried to keep it as clean (read 'ethical') as they could. However this meant it was quite hard to earn an average $20 profit from ever one. The porn cd's cost $1000 for a set or something, and we had bought several sets. And then the cost of hosting etc.
Btw, they lived in Romania - a beautiful country:)
When I was much younger (and I'm 20 now..:) I did the security for a certain porn sites, and learnt a lot about how they work. In the end it worked out more profitable to them to just redirect their traffic to the bigger porn sites than to try to deal with the customers themselves.
For every customer you get to do the $5 trial, we would get $20!
When spamming, we would get a hit rate of around 1 in 1000 - so basically if we sent 10k emails, we would get $200.
I only dealt with the security side, and didn't work there for long btw.
I'm hoping that 3D printers will become good enough to print a graphics card, and the chips needed;) And then print the computer case, and motherboard...
That way I could do "apt-get upgrade" and have the fastest PC by the morning..:)
I would be interested in seeing how much difference that really makes.
Ideally it should use up only a tiny bit more power to heat the water all day compared to for just 10 mins, since once the water is heated, a good insulated tank should keep it hot.
"posing as a /. user"
hmmmm

I'm going to shut up now..
This sounds freaking sweet....
"Does MySQL support recursive microkernal back-propogation transaction reconstruction?"
It's a planned feature
How would this fit into something like, say, cups?

On k5 I saw someone mention how you can tell the deterioation of a message board by how many goatse links there are.
/. we have gone one step further and started to mod them up to +2 :)
Here at
We have entered a new realm, unexplored by other message boards...
Just joking - please don't flame me
It takes up 200 square ft. Instead of a 2500 square ft shop. But stocks only 10th of the products.
Doesn't seem much more dense to me..

So does Gnome..

I wish I could find an editor I could do literacy programming in - emacs had some support, but it wasn't very good.
:) Invented (?) by knuth - 'nuff said.
If you don't know what literacy programming, go find out about it
Try the newer version.
I'm sure I remember it comming up in the discussion about the new release, and someone replying it is pretty stable now.
They did have a problem from having a bad reputation from the first versions, although I think that was from speed.
'Destroying 100's of jobs' is never a particulary good way of putting a point across.
"People who sell diggers are evil, since you need a lot less people to operate diggers than spades, thus destroying 100's of jobs in this country"
And so on...

But over what time period?
Oh sure, currently.
I was merely mentioning it to show that direct access into business is possible.
You could imagine a subway station actually being just the warehouse of Tesco's (or Walmart or whatever u americans have)
You could also imagine winches or something to lift the cargo up and down. Sort of like in pubs, but with the basement being a subway station.
double digit drops? :)
What the hell is that supposed to mean?
and a source would be nice
Haven't you seen warehouses near railway lines, with their own railway track going into them?
You could do a similar thing.
In London, the majority (I forgot the percentage - but more than half) of the underground is above ground..
Do you know why they don't use ssl?
Or is this if you request without ssl?
A good thing you didn't jump...

I'm thinking of having a crack at it.
If your serious, then reply back.
hmm.. try the source
