Let's get in on the act: Apple: It just works. Google does not give data to the NSA. Linux device drivers are easy for normal end users to find, compile and install.
Instead of conjuring up a presidential conspiracy, you may be willing to consider information senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) posted on why the shutdown won't stop the ACA:
"It appears that substantial ACA implementation might continue during a lapse in annual appropriations that resulted in a temporary government shutdown for two reasons. The first is that the federal government will be able to rely on sources of funding other than annual discretionary appropriations to support implementation activities, including multiple-year and no-year discretionary funds still available for obligation as well as mandatory funds.....The HHS shutdown contingency plan that was prepared in anticipation of a possible government shutdown in FY2012 indicated that ACA implementation activities at CMS would continue because of the mandatory funding provided in the law."
Or is Tom Coburn too "liberal" for you to believe him?
Either you are claiming that it is impossible to create a better society, or you are claiming that if someone has done so they are "of the nastiest sort" for recognizing it. Which is it?
Neither, which is what makes your creation a strawman. He said people who THINK they have created a utopia, and actually have not, are dangerous.
I also liked the part in the movie when Tim Curry as the medical officer shows up after the political officer "slipped on tea". IIRC, the medical officer said "Don't be upset. It was a mercy killing. He had a certain naive charm, but no muscle."
"...it doesn't do anything in terms of guaranteeing it."
It makes insurance available to millions currently denied coverage at any cost because they are in the individual market and have been sick in the past. It provides subsidies so people who were priced out of the private insurance market can get it.
Republicans won't allow a system with better results for a fraction of the price (single payer universal), so we are stuck with a half measure. It is still better than condemning more people to death and bankruptcy by repealing the ACA for not being perfect.
His unscientific view of women's anatomy more closely resembles that of Republican Todd Akin, who claimed women have magic body parts that prevent conception when "legitimately" raped.
I know how great it is to bash Microsoft in absolutely every thread their name appears..
The unfortunate state of/. is 90% of stories are click baiting fanboy fodder. It makes it a joyous occasion when an occasional technical article slips through.
However, the Surface Pro 2 looks very attractive. I am buying one.
I'm not buying one... yet. What most partisans fail to see is Microsoft has no choice. Tablets are the future for the majority of consumers. Microsoft can't compete using someone else's OS. Microsoft can't rely on hardware "partners" to follow through. Their only long term chance is to keep plugging away at the Surface Pro until hardware power, battery life and application availability hits a tipping point. They may still fail, but quitting now is certain failure.
All direct observations to date point to a 3D universe.
Ignignokt: You and your third dimension.
Frylock: What about it?
Ignignokt: Oh, nothing, it's cute. We have five.
[pause]
Err: Thousand.
Ignignokt: Yes, five thousand.
Err: Don't question it.
Frylock: Oh, yeah? Well, I only see two.
Ignignokt: Well, that sounds like a personal problem.
Plus, they could have picked up a cheap used TNG bridge from that Vegas place. An organization with the funding of the NSA should be able to launder out the smell of hookers and despair.
If it turns out to be a cache of old I Love Lucy episodes, the BBC will have some 'splainin to do.

Ha! This is fun.

Samsung are one of the least ethical companies around.
Anonymous Coward has denounced you. (you are not at war)
He said no such thing.
From the original post: "...they soon find that their utopia isn't quite working out the way they planned."

I forgot the link showing the initial rollout will only be 300Mbps.
Initial speed will be 300Mbps, of unknown cost, probably with the current 250GB monthly cap, available in few unspecified areas... oh boy.

The IP will be sold off and that deep talent will find a more productive home. The good survive. The useless move to be chief executives elsewhere.
He must be a liberal democrat!

Yes, read them the complete works of Donald Knuth while incapable of running.

The sky webs read "crispy bacon". Poor Wilbur.
Just cut to the chase and vend quarts of whisky from a machine in the alley. Parrrr-taaaay!

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
a tale of a fateful trip.
