I used to work at a major insurance company that used to churn out customer service reps. every week they would start a new 20 person training class. people were always coming and going.
i was one of those people and sadly, i never was able to use my service training to get what i want because when you deal with morons, its very hard not to get pissed off....
Sprint is by far the worst company with respect to service... customer and phone service. 3 out of every 4 calls I make/receive are dropped. I have been hung up on by customer service 4 times and been told that "Sprint will not allow its customers to take advantage of them". ? Isnt that what a company would want you to do???
No matter what new innovations they come up with, I will never subscribe to or use them. Anyone else ever have problems with them?? If so, what did do to resolve it? Me, i am going to sign up with a new service very soon.. bye bye Sprint...
After spending four years in Albany as a student, I came to observed much about my surroundings...
Albany is an up and coming city. Everything you want is in Albany... Culture, entertainment, nightlife, education, etc... Lark Street is a microcosm of NYC's Greenwich village (emphasis on the word microcosm). It has excellent restaurants of all ethnic backgrounds.
Education, especially higher education, is top notch. You have the two of countries best universities, RPI and University at Albany, 10 miles apart. Also in its vicinity are Union College, Skidmore and Siena. This provides for a great knowledge base and an area where people of knowledge would be attracted to. Not to far away, is also Cornell University. Albanay can provide graduates a nice alternative to moving to NYC or any other large metropolis. It can give you the big city feel, without compromising its county charm.
Living is immensely cheap. Road Runner cable is the best. You can a hooked up cable system for under $50/month. Broadband is cheap as well. It costs $50/month for three IP addresses. Yes, you can use a router and what not, but most ISP's, such as Optimum Online, only provide customers with one IP. Ten miles east, you are in the country in a beautiful house with a nice yard. In the city itself, you can live in a great apartment for about $500 a month. Partying at night is real cheap. Cabs are always in service and they are relatively inexpensive. Albany has good cheap bars and people party hard. The school's number one party ranking might be a bit over-exaggerated, but the city as a whole, has a good time. Alot of good bands come to the area, probably because of its central location between boston, nyc, buffalo and montreal.
Now the bad... and trust me, they are a nightmare... Traffic... Albany's roads just are not made for high amounts of traffic. They dont have turning lanes, so most of the time are stuck in a lane waiting for a car to make a turn. YOu can switch lanes, but then you are caught behind a bus... Most of the roads leading in and out of the city are two lanes, each direction. This leads to the problem of public transportation. No trains, no subway... just buses (CDTA) and cars. This causes traffic nightmares. I lived 3 miles from school and it took me, at times, 20 minutes to get there.
Albany has a huge ghetto. Basically the area between pepsi arena, new scotland, clinton ave and quail, is mostly low income. Petty crime is high and enough of a nuisance to cause citizens to be angry.
The weather in Albany is miserable. Between the months of October and April, the sun comes out, maybe twice a week. There is a constant grey cloud over the city and it rains all the time. Albany gets a good amount of snow, and it can come down anytime between the afore mentioned months. It is a windy city as well, so this adds to the miserable cold. For months, we never went outside, but being a Comp Sci major, its ok, never had the time too. From April to September, Albany is awesome! The sky is blue and the air is clean. The parks are pristine and there are some cool festivals (Larkfest in early September, Parkfest in May and Tulip Festival in mid-May).
All in all, Albany has what it takes to be a success. I'm proud to have been a student of the Univesity at Albany and to have graduate with a BS in Comp Sci. Hopefully, the school will put its best foot forward and the city of Albany will welcome this huge endeavor with open arms....
Oh yeah, when in Albany... go down to Lark street and pick up a Bombers Burrito... Bar-b-que chicken,no beans on a spinach wrap for $5.65... its the size of a football!!!!!!
I agree with you views on this. A source of study has to be carefully scrutinized. A great example of this happened a few years back at my university (University at Albany).
Princeton Review, a college prep company that has SAT classes and provides college information and rankings, questioned students at various campuses as to what is the number one party school. They decided to come to Albany on the day of Kegs and Eggs (a rather large bar opens at 8am one Saturday morning and kids get drunk and pour beer all over each other.). They polled the drunked students as they were leaving the bar and naturally, they voted for U at Albany. This, however, is not the main contributing factor to Albany's dubious ranking... A few representitives of Princeton Review had come down to the campus and began soliciting Princeton Review prep classes for graduate exams (MCAT, LSAT, GMAT, etc). Well, the university, having an affiliation with Princeton Review's rival, Kaplan, kicked them off campus. It is a strong belief among administration, that we were given this ranking out of spite.
As with anything in the media, you must take information with a grain of salt and look deeper into the true meaning, sources and objectives of the survey, artiles, etc. It is our responsibilty to question companys or groups that put forth this information, because it could very well be jaded by propaganda.
I tried the Atkins diet a few years back and dropped 46 pounds in two years. It was a greater starter diet in the sense that I lost a good deal of mass and weight. I was thinner, looked better and felt great. Unfortunately, the diet became very tough to maintain, and expensive to boot. Eating eggs and meat everyday is hard. There isnt always the time to prepare elaborate meals (like Atkins suggests...).
I have to say though, the diet does work. It did a few things for me, other than help me loose weight.
In case anyone cares, here is diet that I modified from atkins, it has some elements of his diet, but it also does contradict his "eat fat and protein whenever you want" theory.
1. I eat a natural diet. Whole foods only. Nothing that is processed. Wheat breads, not white. Whole milk, not skim. Atkins strongly suggests this.
2. Fruits and vegetables are the best meal substitutions. For breakfast, I eat fruit if i dont have time to have a meal. Lunch, a salad. You will be suprised as to how much that can fil you up.
3. Eat when hungry. Atkins says the opposite. According to him, you can eat a T-Bone whenever you want. I have the mindset that I eat for energy and nothing else. Your body is a great indicator, listen to it.
4. EXERCISE! What people dont know, is that Atkins always talks about exercising. He doesnt just say "Eat some ribs and sausage and watch the Price is Right All Day". The media likes to make it seem that way, but I strongly suggest that if you are serious about this diet, read his books. It will give you a good insight as to how the diet works, from a medical stand point.
You can totally follow your own diet, but the most important and vital lifestyle change is to EXERCISE! Best thing you can do for yourself...
A really interesting book that also deals with the same subject but on a socialogical and demographic plane, is the book by Patrick Buchanan "The Death of the West". It is filled with Buchanan's theories (yes, he does have some *interesting* political views, but his proclamations here are all based on UN statistics) on how certain countries will lose their native populations and other races will take them over. More and more, Europe will loose its identity as a predominantly "white" society. Here are some key points the book highlights: Relying upon the most recent UN population studies, Buchanan declares:
By 2050, only 10% of the world's people will be of European descent. One third of Europe's people will be over 60, and one-in-ten over 80. Involuntary euthanasia has already come to Europe.
Between now and 2050, Asia, Africa, and Latin America will grow by three to four billion people -- 30 to 40 new Mexicos! -- as Europe will lose the equivalent of the entire population of Germany, Poland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland.
By 2050, 23 million Germans will have disappeared along with 16 million Italians and 30 million Russians.
Russia will lose Siberia and the far east to China and be pushed out of the Caucuses and Central Asia, where Islamic populations are exploding while Russia's is dying.
Either Europe must effect a radical cutback in pensions and health care for seniors, or Europe must import scores of millions of Arabs and Africans to care for the elderly and pay the taxes to sustain their welfare states.
The 4.2 million Palestinians in Israel and on the West Bank and Gaza will explode to 9 million by 2025, and 15 million by 2050, when Palestinians will outnumber Israel's Jewish population two-to-one.
America's "Dual Containment" policy in the Persian Gulf seems unsustainable. In less than 25 years, Iraq will have 42 million people and Iran 94 million people, more than any European nation except Russia.
The Islamic invasions of Spain and France in the eighth century, and of the Balkans and Central Europe from the 14th to the 17th centuries, will be reenacted in the lifetime of most of those now living. Islam has already surpassed Catholicism as the largest religion on earth.
It is the Christian nations -- Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox -- that have begun to die. In a chapter titled, "Where Have All the Children Gone?" Buchanan explains why, and why it is unlikely the West can solve the demographic crisis before it leads to The Death of the West.
In his chapter La Reconquista, Buchanan contends that an invasion of the United States is taking place and that America now harbors a "nation within a nation."
There are 30 million foreign born in the U.S. today, and between 9 and 11 million illegal aliens, or as many undocumented aliens in the U.S. as there are people in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Mexico is exporting its poor and unemployed for U.S. taxpayers to employ and educate. Radical and militant Hispanics and Mexican leaders alike believe this will lead to the cultural and demographic recapture of the Southwest from America, reversing the results of The Mexican War.
By supporting open borders, the GOP is committing suicide. First-time Hispanic voters chose Clinton 15-1 over Dole. Of the seven major immigration states -- Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, California, Texas and Florida -- Mr. Bush lost five, and perhaps six. Of the 10 states with the smallest share of immigrants, Bush won all 10.
European-Americans are a minority in America's most populous state, California, and by 2004, will be a minority in Texas.
The political agenda of California Hispanics includes race welfare for illegal aliens, racial preferences, bilingual education, open borders, dual citizenship, Cinqo de Mayo as a California holiday, and, in one case, replacing a statue of an American hero of the Mexican War with the Aztec god Quetzacoatl.
White Americans are fleeing California at the rate of 100,000 a year.
MeCHA, the student organization that claims chapters on hundreds of campuses has a program that reads like a Mexican version of the agenda of the white-supremacist Aryan Nation.
In 2001, an Office for Mexicans Abroad in Mexico was providing survival kits with everything from dried meat to anti-diarrhea pills to condoms to Mexicans setting off to break in to the United States.
As of 2000, there were 8.4 million foreign born in California, as many foreign born as there are people in New Jersey, a primary cause of the state energy and schools crisis.
Among Third World immigrants, poverty rates and incarceration rates are double and triple what they are among native-born Americans.
Shooting up the flares and waving the flag, Buchanan argues that the 1960s "counter-culture" has become America's dominant culture, and the iconoclasts of that counter-culture are systematically demolishing America's history and heritage.
Under Political Correctness, America's greatest heroes -- soldiers, explorers and statesmen from Columbus to George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson, Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson -- are under savage attack as genocidal racists and exploiters of indigenous peoples.
The history books of American public schools are being rewritten with the old heroes ignored or trashed and Western civilization disparaged and demeaned.
When Mel Gibson's film, "The Patriot," came out in 2000, it was savagely attacked for presenting black Americans as fighting patriots in the Revolutionary War.
With the assault on Confederate books, symbols, flags, heroes, and holidays almost complete, the attack is now proceeding against the Puritan fathers, soldiers who fought in The Mexican War, and, in New Jersey, even against the Declaration of Independence itself.
In some school districts, Mark Twain, Flannery O'Connor, and any realistic portrayal of the America South, including Harper' Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird, are now forbidden.
Even the great museums on America's Mall, to introduce school children to the greatness and glory of America's past, are being used to indoctrinate children in how wicked and evil our forefathers were.
In his chapter, "The De-Christianization of America," Buchanan argues that the death of the Christian faith in Western countries is a primary cause of their dying populations. Whenever faith dies, the people die. A new atheistic civilization is arising, he argues, and is using its dominance of the culture and the courts to drive Christianity out of the temples of our civilization.
Secular Humanism, widely mocked and disparaged, a few decades ago, is now the dominant faith of the nation's cultural elites. The moral tenets of humanism are replacing those of Christianity in our public life.
Even Christian churches are rewriting their hymnals to make them acceptable to the dominant culture.
Anti-Catholic films and filthy and blasphemous anti-Christian art are the deliberate insults of a triumphant pagan and secularist faith.
He does bring up very valid points that we can all use to change our lives. He stresses faith, family and a return to a more moral society. His right wing ideals shine through on some points but others are applicable to all beliefs. Culminating these two sources, the future does not look very bright. But humans have always evovled to survive their elements, and I think we will continue to do so.
You're right. I feel bad for black people with respect to how black actors are cast. most roles for african american males involve playing some uneducated, ghetto, hood rat. its sad. spike lee does a good job of portraying real life characters. sidney potier is amazing, but unfortunately, very few black americans follow his path to stardom.
As corny and stupid of a concept MIB 1 was, I loved it. I despise Will Smith, but he was tolerable. I have free movie passes and might go see this one...
Living in the NY Metro area, we prob wont see this for a few years. And when we do, it probably will jack up the rates considerably because all corporations are under the assumption that NY metro customers have money coming out the wazoo. I lived in Albany for 2 years and I had premium cable, sans adult channels, and paid around $60 a month... thats including digital cable with about all the HBO's, Cinemax, Showtime, Starz, and Encore channels. If I were to get that same package on Long Island, it would cost me well over $100/month.
It would create such a big problem to adjust computer times... But actually that might be a good thing. One of the biggest contributions to the economic boom was the fear over the Y2K bug. It put alot of people into work and created alot of jobs. Maybe a big overhaul, such as Y2K can help the struggling economy along.
Bands that mainly survive off a hardcore fan base and little else sell a majority of their records in the few first weeks of release. In the past months or so, Rush, Tom Waits(two releases), etc. have released albums that have debuted relatively high on the Billboard charts for their week of release and a quick decline down the charts in subsequent weeks after.
This is probably what has happened to Moby. The hardcore fans purchased the album when it was released, then, without a huge hit, people kind of forget about him...
I am a system administrator at a small elementary school. I have encountered this problem myself and I solved it with a very simple solution... Using clout as being the "resident computer geek". If you are the system administrator, you are working under the assumption that all computer related issues funnel through you. The best way to get the administration to listen is to show them why P2P programs are not appropriate and potentially harmful to the educational system. Would they allow teachers to bring in smut to the class room or to abuse school facilities for non-educational and personal reasons? Probably not. This should apply to the use of the computers as well, after all they are mearly an extension on the school. Being aware of these issues that come with P2P programs is your job and its your responsiblity to do what you can to maintain the integrity and "cleaness" of the network. If something were to go wrong, its your head that would roll, so basically you would just be saving your ass from a lot of unecessary headache.
I have worked in retail for many years and stores do not pay as much attention to gift cards as they should because they have no real value. They are like coins at amusement parks, they are only good at the respective stores. To put more money into safeguarding them, would destroy the supposed cost effeciency of these cards. Another point to consider is the switch from paper gift certificates. I believe that this was a much safer way to do business, but stores needed to "get with the times" and have a more electronic certificate. I guess this is one of those instances where advanced technology does not benefit us more than we think...
This law should be inacted everywhere!!! Thats all i have to say about that...

HA, thats a good one Mr. Coward.
Dragon Ball is the only anime i could ever stand...

Maybe Kazaa was developed by a terrorist organization to cripple weak american minds and destroy our computers...
"Jar Jar Binks, the notorious duck-billed racial caricature from "The Phantom Menace" ....you may now call him Senator Binks."
First Hillary Clinton becomes a Senator, now Jar-Jar Binks... I'm moving to Canada...
Guys, Lance will be alright. He has gone through the vigors of space training before. He attended Space Camp when he was twelve...
"LIVE FREE or DIE " can mean so many things in this day and age...
