Mame32 makes you go thru them for downloads too. At least, I can never find the newest version anywhere else. Fuck fileplanet. Fuck them in their ear.

  2. Re:A lot of curiosity on iTunes Music Store sells 275,000 Tracks in 18 Hours · · Score: 1

Its not a tax. Its a markup from the RIAA on those products aimed at people who haven't got a clue. If it were a tax levied by the government like it is in Canada, it would be on every CDR sold. Only idiots pay the useless markup on "audio" CDRs.

  5. usenet was great... in 1993 on Spaf's Farewell, Ten Years Later · · Score: 4, Insightful

With the massive proliferation of special-interest web sites and message boards (helped in no small part by quality OSS software such as apache, php, mysql and phpBB, as well as many others) usenet is becoming more and more irrelevant. Most action happens in the binaries groups where people just fire up pan or agent (or some other bin-friendly news reader) and go to town downloading software.

Another large part of this is the signal-to-noise ratio. Even though you have the cancel-bots traversing usenet, its still choked full of spam. Web-based message boards and plain old email lists that require you be authenticated before posting have done much to raise the all-important s2n ratio.

  6. Sharper Image Ionic Breeze on An Affordable Air Purifier For Dusty Computer Labs? · · Score: 1

I have a Sharper Image Ionic Breeze. For $350 it does a decent job of cleaning allergens and some dust out of the air, but it will NOT keep your home office dust-free.

And its a royal pain to clean.

  8. Re:Tape will be with us for a while yet... on Hard Drives Instead of Tapes? · · Score: 3, Insightful

Right on. :) Most ./ers dont know anything about enterprise systems. Thats why you see them rail against commercial unices, because they only know Windows/Mac/Linux/*BSD. This carries over into tape backup strategy. They dont know anything about high-end tape technology, so you will see them suggest things like using large IDE harddrives because it sounds so simple on the surface. To do backups to disk right (and then to tape, because you really should) you need a real SAN though.

  9. one point of view on What Makes an Open Source Project Successful? · · Score: 1

How about how well the piece of software manages to stay true to its objective? One of the great things about OSS is that people can take source code and fix it up to do something they need but at the same time, 1000 people with their hands in the pot has the tendency to make a project go nowhere and collapse under its own weight.

  10. Re:Uhh... on Ten Years of Web Browsing · · Score: 1

Yeah but this was also way back when you had to buy a separate TCP/IP stack for your Dos/Windoze machine. Anyone outside of a university who had any internet access in 1993 (with maybe a scant couple exceptions) was doing it by dialing into a shell account.

TATU are just another commercialized mass produced shit band. Now they are trying to put some "lesbian" spin on then to generate interest with a largely male crowd. Please. If those two eat pussy, I'll eat my cat. Its just a another gimmick to sell garbage.

$375? Per month? yeah? lifetime? Are you buying separate accounts for all of your computers?

You astound me with your ranting. In a different post you claim to use Windows 3.1 for your web browsing and hollar about how everyone needs to be connected, now you are complaining because ISPs cost too much? Supply and demand! There are cheap ISPs out there. If you cant afford $10/mo for internet service, then you are probably working long hours to make ends meet (or should be) and wouldn't have much time to use it anyway.
