    Your college took it upon themselves to limit the bandwidth of students seeking music and pr0n (and don't kid yourself, that's exactly what you were going to use it for) so that people wanting to view normal webpages could do so with some reasonable speed, while still allowing you to get your music and pr0n (slowly) and you're bitching about it? Cry me a river.

    I got to the Nashville meetup spot at about 6:45, one other /.er was there.. small groups of 2 or 3 people started showing up, some with blue hair (obviously /.ers..) We had 12 or 13 people show up, we frightened the TGI Friday's waiter, and we managed to keep the felonies to less than ten. Things rolled along well, but I left at about 10:00, and there were still 6 people there when I left. We got an email address logbook going so we can keep in touch, and we offered to share our vast libraries of books with one another. Also, beer. =]

    I've never had a problem with CR/LF; the settings I've changed in our environment (F-Sec SSH 2.something on Sol 2.6 and 3.something on Sol 8) would not affect this...

    F-Secure makes a rather kick-ass line of SSH products. We use them in production here (major tire manufacturer.), and it is FIPS 140-1 compliant. The client-side portion is pretty schweeeeeeet (esp the Windows client), even if you don't use the server portion.

    Down the street from Vanderbilt Uni on Belcourt Avenue.. Besides doing art-film movies and Rocky Horror on Fridays, they also show Anime (Metropolis being their latest..)

    To get gift cards at Wal-Mart, you have to go to customer service and they take one out of a locked cabinet, charge it, and give it to you when you pay. At least, that's how it works at Wal-Marts in the southeast.

    No, but if they know that it was a dark green Honda, and that the first letter of the number plate was X, and you have one of those, then you might find the police come knocking on your door.

    And the problem with this is .. what? How many dark green Hondas with a license plate that starts with the letter X are there, and how many of them belong to people who live in SanFran? Police detectives do go to people's houses to ask them a few questions based on evidence like "he was driving a light green VW beetle, and the license plate started with MJ.. something" all the time, and I see nothing wrong with this.

    Why don't you help even 15 lost youth find gainful employment? And then everyone on Slashdot can help 15 former gang members find gainful employment. Based on your user number, if we all help 72 gang members find something to do with their lives besides waste away, that makes at least 1,290,165 kids in this country less likely to accidentally kill you or other innocent people in a drive-by shooting gone wrong.

    Not to be a real stick in the mud, but pulse dialing doesn't use tones, it uses (very fast) flash hooks. (Also, at 5 cents per pulse, and at 500hz, if you consider a sine wave cycle a "pulse", thats not $0.25 per second, thats $25.00 per second.)

    Specifically, NDS. See, you take your enterprise and roll it out with Windows 2000 running on Novell Directory Services instead of MS Active Directory, then you can slam Caldera Linux boxes down on the network and they'll talk the same extensible, fast directory that your Win2k infrastructure does. Anyone who has ever managed an enterprise network with NDS knows what a beautiful thing it is.
