I think you misunderstand. The desire for bigger and better weapons is not driven by their destructive ability, but by the lust for their destructive ability. A lot of people in very high places get their rocks off by thinking about being able to kill billions, not just millions, of people. These are the people who drive military development today.
What? No, I use mozilla. I just have it set up to put an icon in the status bar if a popup is requested, so I can see it if I need... and I don't like seeing that icon, because it means the person is a Bad Person, even if it doesn't directly effect me.
I think we're violently agreeing.:-) My question wasn't "why are (most) companies striving for a profit?" but "why do people think that/all/ companies must strive for a profit?" Is there a better motivation? For most cases, probably not, but it isn't good to put down the thousands or millions of workers who/do/ have a better motivation.
This is not universally true. As a result, your answer is not universally applicable.
In particular, non-profit organizations don't always aim to make a profit.
Nor do some family-run businesses, which intend to be sustainable, not grow.
I'm sorry if you can no longer moderate in this thread as a result, but the silly idea that everything must be done with profit in mind is one of the major forces that I see as destroying our civilization, and you've fallen for it hook line and sinker.
Right, but the original question was in the context of the new york metro area, where 7-digit dialling is no longer allowed. All numbers are either three digit (in the from x11) or eleven digit (in the form 1xyzabcdefg, where !(y & z)).
There's a difference between showing and not hiding. In all those cases (well, except the first; I show my gf my porn collection all the time) I might not show it, but I'd not hide it. Maybe I just am less ashamed of my life than you, I don't know.
Especially in new york, now that we have 11-digit dialing.
On that note, can someone please explain to me what the heck the point of 11 digit dialing is? Isn't the semantic content of the leading 1 exactly null? Why not 10 digit? My cell phone allows it...
Higgs wouldn't help. You'd need a tachyon.
See my above post.
Signed, another happy mozilla user, who still thinks popups are obnoxious even if he doesn't see them.

Yes, but a strong US military feeding off the vitality of its citizens is likely to make even more enemies within our own borders.

Wow, your site has popups. Welcome to my foes list.

Sorry, it doesn't answer my question.
Because, a company is owned by shareholders

Omniscient means all knowing. They do not say the robot is all knowing. So no, they do not even claim that the robot is omniscient.

For they cannot think for themselves.
It's NEVER the last exploit.
Perhaps, but 100GB CD's just make too good sombreros to waste on data backup.
Check the price.
That's a nice drive and all, if a bit small. But check the price.
If XBox 2 is M-Sys, it's disk-on-chip.
Which just goes to show that a majority of a majority is not always a majority. As the US electoral system demonstrates so very well.

You mean like v, i, and w?
if a company does not profit it cannot pay its employees
... it cannot expand
... it cannot research new areas
Why? Profit is calculated after expenses.
So what?
So what?
Why do you think all the dot coms failed?
Less income than expenses.
Profit should be the first and foremost goal of any company.
Why?
If money is your primary source of motivation, it's time to change jobs.
Hey, don't knock Questar. I just mailed them a bill for $1200 for "services rendered." I expect my check this time next week.

How do you get it from home to office without a battery? Do you have to shut it down?
Hah hah hah! You paid money for software!
