Encryption will make this difficult. It'll be right back to making unsubstantiated claims that some IP address was serving up copyrighted content then demanding to know the subscriber details.
In two hours? What a lame test. That makes me trust the product less than if they didn't bother doing a contest at all. Giving the attackers 100 units (and providing more upon request) and giving them 6 months would be reasonable.
You tell 'em Legerov. You have absolutely no obligation to work with vendors or projects. If they don't help you fix bugs, they should expect to hear from you in the comment at the top of your PoC.
Agreed. The host should respect your privacy and never access the data without your consent. You should switch.
If you need to give access in the future you could setup a user account, load a screen, sudo bash in there, and have them 'screen -x' so you can see what they do. Or you can tar up the logs and send them a copy.
And if you want privacy I would strongly urge you to use disk encryption to keep them out of your files. And rebuild your kernel without USB, Firewire, and PCMCIA support. There's ways to compromise this, but at least it raises the bar.
Stop giving them your money. If you live in Australia send these guys emails and tell them you won't purchase movies anymore. Tell them you will also discourage your friends and family from doing so. The vast majority of what they make is a complete waste of your time anyway.
As long as they are successful and know how to write quality software it is absolutely not a black mark. There is nothing wrong with internet gambling. If you're interested in a career working with large networked applications then gambling is a great place to be.
You must be confused. Celebs are "stalked" all the time. That's legal. It's a huge industry. If only we were so lucky to have police, politians and other "authorities" treated the same way. If only we saw their faces EVERY DAY in the pages of tabloid newspapers!
She's a reporter, not a stalker. And these officers are armed anyway. They have nothing to fear. Except for some of them being exposed as the corrupt, evil men that they are.
Doesn't it make you even a little uneasy that the police, who are supposed to be model citizens who we can trust to protect us, cannot stand the light?
Maybe they should have asked a chinese guy who actually knows something about computer security instead of asking a PR guy if he's stopped beating his wife yet.
People don't want to pay for something that's half full of recycled content from AP and Reuters. It's all ads and government propaganda. If the newspaper contained any information worth knowing I'm sure it would have been successful.
Maybe one day governments and businesses will just have their say on their own official web sites and journalists will simply maintain blogs.
At least that way it would be more obvious who said what and news would have less top-down editorial control.
Yahoo does the same thing with it's YUI. It's optional. But careful, Yahoo (or Google in this case) can see all the referrer information since it's something you include *every* page, including generated ones. Google/Yahoo could be viewing parameters to your dynamic pages. Then again that's true of any site that displays third party advertising. http://noscript.net/ takes care of this problem in firefox.

If people want to clone Cisco gear that's fine, just as long as they don't try to sell it to me as if it were the real thing

I guess all violent games will simply be downloaded then.

He sure did
If only you give up more freedom and more privacy you will be safe!
Northwest Bomb Plot 'Oddities'
Were any provisions of the Patriot Act set to expire soon or something?
I don't believe any of this BS anymore. End the TSA.

All versions I could find. Search TPB. And I'm not going to stop.
where those billions and billions of dollars went.
Are already bought and paid for anyway. Who are they kidding?
If you see their crap installed, remove it. Tell your clients anything from this company is an ineffective ripoff.
This will guarantee internet will suck in Finland.

And name the bad product as well.

Copyright is a tool to control the spread of information. You're suprised that politicians are interested in that?
