Got the NVidia card for playin' on the Windows partition. You are right on that issue, but 'til I can get a new card, let's try to make this work, shall we?
I downloaded 2.6.10 last week (the.tar.bz2 file) and compiled it on my Debian testing box. Then I try to run the latest nVidia drivers (6629, is it?) and it tells me that it cannot load nvidia.ko because of a problem with the kernel sources.
So, I'm still booting 2.4.21, to load my beloved KDE!
He's an asshole. I would love to see that same critical eye but turned to IE's vulnerabilities.
It's like a sophisticated astroturfing: a blog posting at MSDN saying "hey, maybe Firefox ain't so great"... It's FUD, why do we bother? Fuck him and the IE he rode on.
One has to wonder, will 'Monkey' Ballmer and his gang of miscreants reply to this? Will we see a big 'IE. Get with the program.' on the next days? They cannot let this stand...
You're the one that should be accused of navel gazing. You are putting the United States in a position of "police of the world". Who gave you, as a country, the right to meddle in external affairs? In my country (Argentina) the United States knew of the missing people and never did a thing. In Chile they sent CIA agents to depose a *democratically elected* president.
A billion of people who are free? Please. When Churchill asked Roosevelt for help on WWII, Roosevelt asked "what's in it for me?". They only did that to benefit, afterwards, from Plan Marshall and trade rights. Please stop being naïve and thinking about heroes; you're looking for them in the wrong place.
A bad peace is better than a good war. Bush wrongly invaded Iraq, going against the United Nations and everyone else. He toyed with the lives of the marines he sent to die, and of the iraqi people who were "collateral damage".
Any yet, if anyone brings up this elemental truth, it is "unamerican"...
To be on topic, I'll remind you of the letter of the former FCC chairman. Go read it. The airwaves that Sinclair is using belong to the people; it's not like a newspaper. There are certain rules for TV stations. Moreover, Sinclair is doing business with Bush and, clearly, this is a way of repaying. (Or a way of getting out of debt, maybe.)
Well, I guess this got too long, so I'll end it right here. Thanks for reading so far, if you reached here.
Excuse me the off-topic, but I live in Argentina; I read the New York Post, I check Electoral Vote nearly everyday, and I enjoyed the BushBashing on the last debate (go Kerry!).
That said, I cannot figure out why the silly rules that the candidates cannot speak to one another, can't come near the other, etc... WTF? I'd prefer the Democrats to win, but why are so wussies? Can't they say "we want a debate and Kerry'd like to call Bush a LIAR to his face!" ?
Maybe if I lived in the US I'd understand this things...:-)
I remember on a NYT interview that Bram Cohen said that all BitTorrent packets were not encrypted nor decentralized. All machines must connect to the tracker in order to download, so there ARE ways to measure it.
There was a time when my country (Argentina) was badly hurt because it was cheaper to import things that to make them. So the people asked for some kind of government action, but the United States (always dictating how we Third World Countries should behave) always said that it was bad trade practice, that we should all be competitive and such.
So it's kinda funny that now it's the other way 'round, isn't it?:) I believe this is what Lisa Simpson calls schadenfraude.
Anyway, let's make clear that this isn't personal. I'd really like every/.'er to have a nice job. But it seems that there's been a great deal of political apathy, hoping that things will somehow straighten out by themselves. That's not going to happen!
Of course you're right. I merely wanted to point out that it seems to me that some American companies have double standards. It was a matter of time before all this globalization stuff finally backfired on the American people. No bias here, I'm from Argentina but I don't think it's about the people, it's about governments.
Perhaps this jobs offshore thing will help people to think before voting. Perhaps not. It's been said that the people has the government it deserves.:(
Socialism is evil according to the bible of capitalism, but this protectionist measures seem to imply that the actions of private companies need to be measured by the State. I don't really get it. If this is a Free Market, tech companies should be able to do whatever they want. So what, it's capitalism when you're rich, but socialism if the game ain't going your way?
Funny thing about Esperanto is that they seem to be a lodge or something. When I was in college there was this gloomy guy, always at the back of the class. One day he approached me with pamphlets and said if I wouldn't like to learn Esperanto, then I could travel around the world and be greeted by esperanto-speakers all around.
It's all clear now. Like Cringely said, I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft turns out to be paying for SCO lawyers. Consider the declarations of Ballmer about OSS being "a virus", and now all this thing about Linus being candid with patent... This is yet another attack on OSS, funded by Ol' Mighty Bill!

3Degrees is Microsoft trying to lure youngsters. It's ok; that's what business is about. What the OSS community should do, then, is compete in that field too.
Any coders up to do a killing youngster app? Microsoft wouldn't stand a chance.:-)
Don't knock it off, my last three jobs have come thanks to my LinkedIn account.
ZING!
Hey, thanks for the advice... It's really neat to have the help of the Slashdot community.
I'll try it... Thank you very much!
Thanks for the info. This was sort of asking around, but in the trollish way that, in Slashdot, gets you some attention. ;-)

I'm running 2.6.10 and the NVidia X Driver won't compile against it ... someone tell NVidia to keep up with this!

Illegal in Europe? It has been done in the UK, years ago. Sorry I cannot give you an exact reference, but I've read about it.
I don't find it specially illegal. It's the same as making a coalition. It's very nice to see people engaged in the democratic process like this.

Thanks for pointing it out. We speak Spanish here, and my only chances of practising are by posting on Slashdot. Isn't it sad? :-)

They mention ogg. That's enough, I guess. :-)

Be nice to me and don't hurt my karma.
Oh yeah. It's been weeks since I could download packages off the web. Hasn't anyone set up a mirror by now?

I don't think the little list of mirrors that they've put (fansites and all) will survive the craze... We need more mirrors! Anyone?
... all my mirrors are full!
I am on Europe and I am downloading it from Australia
