That is not what I meant by "only a theory" my friend. But thanks for jumping to the wrong conclusion. What I was trying to point out is that everything involved in science is a theory and therefore can be disproven or altered as our understanding progresses.

Also, I would like to point out, that the entire purpose is to question the validity of all theories. Theories are there to be challenged, because without them being questioned the Earth would still be flat, the Sun would still revolve around the Earth and all materials would still be made up of the four elements of earth, fire, air and water.

Progress is made, not by sticking to the status quo, but by questioning our assumptions and arriving at different conclusions via experimentation.

you used an example regarding the speed of light changing with time. I recall reading an article about a year ago, where Spanish scientists have proposed a theory that time is in fact slowing down. This theory is supposed to help explain why the universe appears to be continually expanding at an increased rate.

Naturally this is only a theory, as is all science, but it does at least explain why we would see the expansion of the universe accelerating. Also, if proven, it would cause a lot of other theories, such as the age of the universe, to be reworked.

I forgot the password to my RSA key, I need to restore it... how to do this with my hammer?

    you can either:
    a) beat yourself over the head with said hammer until such time as your brainwaves have ceased (thus negating the need for your RSA key)
    or
    b) attack the encrypted drive with the hammer until such time that it has turned to dust, therefore reducing the problem to that of irrecoverable data loss.

While it is true that your RSA key cannot be recovered with a hammer, these two examples show that the problem can still be simplified with the use of a hammer

I have to agree with you on this. Another similar circumstance is currently occurring in Victoria, Australia but with the water utility companies.

You see, we are currently suffering from a slight water shortage, mainly because of a lack of forsight from our political leaders, and we are now being told to use no more than 155L per person per day (in general, the average usage in a developed country is often around 300L per person per day) Since we are now using about half the volume of water that was previously used, the water utility companies are raising the prices per unit of water, to maintain their profits.

Having said that, if we did continue to use 300L each per day, our reservoirs would already have been depleted. But it still remains that the reason why they are increasing the cost per unit, is because we are all using less.
