The point is to make you happy with the 'free' email which causes you to look the other way as they profile you from your huge pile of indexed words and serve you targeted advertising (and loads of data mining on the back end also, I am sure). It is either the biggest gladhand ever, or they really are 'nice guys' that just want to unobtrusively serve ads in exchange for letting you using their service. Time will tell whether we have all been conned or not. Little story, somehow it seems relevant when looking at the real motivation of these companies. Some years ago I worked at a tobacco giant that had a huge 'reward' incentive program, you remember the one. Turns out this company was willing to lose money on these rewards just to get one more person in their database. It was all about the database, and it still is. Of course, we all know that in the long run, tobacco always wins the money race, so the short term loss was always a long term profit.........

Mexico.
There is even a song about this subject, the magnificent "Ride Like the Wind" by one of the greatest musicians of the century (catch him now at the Stardust Lounge, off the strip, shows at 8 and 11), the inimitable Kristopher Kross ! And I've got such a long way to go, to make it to the border of mexicol.....

If you have out of date hardware, ripping a dvd is painfully slow, like overnight slow. Most consumers don't have dual processor g5's as far as I know.

actually, Skywalker Ranch is located in San Rafael, several hundred miles north of Hollywood. Its not really all that gigantic, either, but the art deco screening theater is to die for.
why would a movie studio use BitTorrent instead of just allowing someone to download from their site or from, let's say, iMovies by someone like Apple?

I wish the would try to charge more for movies..... I already only go just twice a year as it is.

Nice link, but meanwhile in the real world at a fortune 500 company, we bought about 45 imac G5's and have been watching them drop at the rate of 1 per week because of a power supply heat problem that unfortunately takes out the logic board with it. Rev. A of an apple product. It is covered under warranty but still costs 2 hours of labor per failure (remove hard drive, messenger unit to repair shop, swap unit out at user desktop, etc.
Actually, you are right. Even if there was a checksum, that does not take into account different encoders, bitrates, or even the built in error correction scheme, which makes every copy not an exact duplicate of the original sometimes.
