That depends on your method of survival... now doesn't it.
Hitler thought he was "surviving" by eliminating all the jews and grabbing land to make Germany secure for his people.. yet I doubt you would say that he wasn't tyrannical.
Now before you go off saying that America != Nazi Germany.. I'm not making that comparison. I'm refuting your claim that the quest survival negates tyranny.
Why is it than when someone critizes military expenditures, someone inevitably brings out the "hippy love fest" lines and "sticking ones head in the sand" lines.
Dude, anyone who posts on slashdot, triple-emhasizing "IMHO" really isn't all that humble.
I have to do that because people on slashdot tend to get a little touchy when America is critized... I did it as a courtesy not an emphasis of arrogance.
Interestingly the Gatling Gun was first made to be a weapon so terrible that people would see the futility of war and not fight any more.. (credits to the History Channel) The opposite happened. Increasing destructive power has always only served throughout history to up the ante when it comes to the price of fighting a war...and ultimately has made the world a more dangerous place to live.
It doesn't make the world a safer place it makes *America* a safer place.. and even that is arguable. Space weapons seem a whole lot like pork spending for defense contractors. To bad more of that money couldn't be used to improve the lives of America's citizens.
All it does it remove the mask of civility and democracy from what is ***IMHO*** an increasingly tyrannical power.
Hopefully if/when SimCity 5 is developed there will be actual models for retailers.. This IMHO would add a huge dimension of realism for that game. Probably one of the few games were commercial placement would actually be really appropriate.
Like any job prestige comes from the level of difficulity and the method in which it's handled.
Tech support may be easy for ones own system but the job difficulity increases ten fold when you have to communicate with someone who is not tech literate.
If you are good at tech support for a large multinational corporation, then yes it would be a rather prestigeous job in a country that values it's tech industry.
Everyone knows the universe was created by a corporation that created the first diety who in turn created the known universe, which created men, who created corporations..
I shall patent the process by which one attains a patent?.. and by extension all subsequent patents!
I'll be a patent god with little bolts of patent energy zapping cash from every pore! People and corporations alike will fall at my feet and beg for mercy as I pitilessly strip them of financial resources...
That depends on if MS provided technology *specifically* for the purpose of trapping dissidents... if that were the case then MS would indeed have been a direct party to the violation of human rights in China.
Well fines aren't supposed to put a company out of business... If MS has to give up a few billion dollars in cash, you can bet they'll change their ways...
At the very least it will make the stockholders take notice and perhaps even dump if MS doesn't change their ways under a significant penalty.
Let's me see.. I love Apple pie. Don't particularly like Ford trucks (or just trucks for that matter) pretty neutral of fluffy bunnies, like watching beauty contest, neutral on the fourth of july, don't mind McDonals every once in a while.. love summer days, as far as "everything about this great land" No place is perfect.. some things I like, some things I dislike... BTW, Why would you want me to move to France?..and I eat cheese rarely...
well, that should about sum it up for you.. any other questions?..oh excuse me they weren't questions, they were assumptions... Do you have any other uninformed assumptions about me?
We can't have the corrupting influence of video games infiltrating our society.. What happens when a violent video gamer makes it into public office.. Why we could have WAR as a form of making profit or something... absolutely horrendous!!!
Does this mean that the Wachowski Bros. can call their next film..
MS Matrix?
Government's purpose is to balance the matrix.
...or is it the other way around? or is it *and* the other way around?
..or perhaps I am!
Slashdot's purpose is to unbalance the matrix.
You obviously see that I could never be a programmer!
If that mutant strain of bacteria turned people into random primary colors, I'd be all for it for arts sake..
That depends on your method of survival... now doesn't it.

I believe in defense, just not wasteful spending.

How much for the visible light part? If someone bought that part, could they sue you for seeing?
If we play by RIAA rules you also sue them if you see something illegal!?
I don't know about you.. but you won't catch me going to any doctor asking for a love injection!
Noone, even President Bush, is either totally wrong/evil or totally right/good.
You're right, but I do think that Bush is a "Deep Charcoal" on the Black/White Spectrum.
Okay. Time for a little straight talk, folks.
Lots of folks inside and outside of the USA are starting to whine about jus....
This is where I stopped reading.

I would equate this little analogy to prohibition rather than murder...
Who's the victim in your real world scenario?
Everyone knows the universe was created by a corporation that created the first diety who in turn created the known universe, which created men, who created corporations..
Oh my God! What have I discovered!
If 98% of the alleys were filled with drugs, wouldn't it just be more efficient to legalize drugs?
Once we adopt a new system of confusion, you, like every other ancient deity, will simply fade away... Enjoy your reign while you can.
Don't be thinking that I don't have a patent on that new system of confusion!
That double negative in my sentence... yup, I've got a patent on that too!
I shall patent the process by which one attains a patent?.. and by extension all subsequent patents!
I'll be a patent god with little bolts of patent energy zapping cash from every pore! People and corporations alike will fall at my feet and beg for mercy as I pitilessly strip them of financial resources...
BEHOLD! I *AM* PATENT LAW!
That depends on if MS provided technology *specifically* for the purpose of trapping dissidents... if that were the case then MS would indeed have been a direct party to the violation of human rights in China.
I can only accomplish that because I'm half dog...

Would the title prevent him from ever attaining an office?
