A mouse isn't like a television remote where you tote it with you either consciously or subconsciously into other rooms..
A mouse (even a wireless one typically sits in proximity to your computer) same as your keyboard.. and would rarely be moved for any practical purpose.
However this rule would likely change with wireless mice in tandem with notebook computers.. but even then it would most likely be stored with said computer and would probably not be as problematic as a TV remote...
We seem to be crossing the barrier from capturing and prosecuting criminals to restraining the general populace in order to protect the status quo institution...
At what point does the government go from serving the wishes of the people to the people serving the wishes of the government?
Take a good and careful look.. this is erosion of freedom at work... Sure maybe it's small and relatively painless.. but then, that's why they call it erosion,
Your fears are not unfounded. The more powerful a technology becomes the greater the necessity that we absolute ensure that said technology does not become abused.
"The price of freedom is eternal vigilance"... and technology such as this only serves to underscore that statement.
"They said they were police from the recording industry or something, and next time they'd take me away in handcuffs,"
That's why they used ex policemen..
They *were police* (past tense) They were from the recording industry...
Therefore legally speaking the statement is true, however they are using, at best, shady tactics. The RIAA, IMHO, is clearly trying to kill the spirit of the integrity of law in the United States..
Yes I frequently lament about almost buying Yahoo when it was at $10 a share before rising to over $400 splitting and then rising to $400 again.. and splitting again.
I actually had the buy screen up with my cursor on the buy button and had second thoughts at the last second...
If by some weird miracle I had actually held the stock that long.. I wouldn't be posting in a slashdot forum from work today.
One police take control of a vehicle then they would be liable for any damages or deaths that occur because of that vehicle.. "It wasn't my fault your honor... *the police did it*"
There is an elderly lady in my community who has been giving money to the Nigerians for years. She is so far gone that she gets vehemently angry when people tell her that she is being scammed (this includes a personal visit from the FBI) She has lost almost everything she owns and she still keeps giving in the hopes that "God will sort everything out." There comes a point when accepting the truth is more humiliating than losing everything you own... which is a pretty harsh bit of reality for this lady. Her car has broken down and she has no way to fix it.. She now walks everywhere in the dead of winter. Before you bash her with "she deserved it" remarks.. try not to judge her to harshly because in her heart she was just trying to help people.
Actually art majors (myself having been one) would appreciate the movie MORE so than normal people simply from the standpoint of how much ART went into this film and respecting the work, creativity and dedication that went into the making of it... without those art majors there would be no LOTR trilogy..
The masses can appreciate the finished product but only the artist can truly appreciate what it took to create this masterpiece of film making.
I have no doubt whatsoever that Ansel Adams would have gone digital...
Artists like any other profession like to expand their skills.. Ansel Adams created beautiful images with his cameras... why should it have mattered how the image is created... be it manipulation of light on film or manipulation of pixels on a screen..
It's the finished product that ultimately matters to the artist.
My comments were based more along the lines of similar religions... Most religions are based on "rights" and "wrongs" of nature.. of course a group that promoted pedophilia would splinter if it were organized, however, that doesn't mean that those people should be cast aside and judged...
My original post was one of tolerance of the people who believe differently than you... not against splintering itself.. (which is why I added "the truth according to their individual definitions)
You may hate the "sin" of pediphilia but don't hate the perpetrator of the "sin"... kind of what Ghandi was hitting at when he said "Hate the sin and not the sinner"
I hope this isn't what Bill was talking about with The Secure Computing Initiative

Just my two cents.
Smelling the shit of pretty women all day...
Depending on your perspective, that might be a bad or good working environment...
Personally speaking, it's puts just a little too much reality into the women I work with...

..and with a global economy, one can only assume it's a matter of time before the formation of some semblance of world government.
For once I will not be going to see the Next Star Wars in the theaters..
This fan is staying with the light side of the force while the movies go to the dark side...

Now when I run around telling eveyrone that the government put a chip in my brain, it won't mean anything!

If they are capturing any audio samples from Mars? I'm sure it must be of some use to scientists and just as easy to transmit..
If anything hearing the martian winds added to the landscape would add a whole new dimension to the maritian landscape.
From a company that clearly has the ability to enter a new market behind other market leaders and have success (iPaq PDAs)
Remind me again who makes iPaq's?
I'm sure that HP computers will have a pretty good chance at having Quicktime and iTunes preinstalled to support the 'hPods'
not only will this add to the QT base but will ad potential customers to the iTunes music store..
I think this is a really good move for Apple.
Now think of how many of them can secure those routers, and imagine yourself with access to all your neighbors' movie collections!
I feel an "I have a dream" speech coming on!
I probably would have modded your post up if you would have stuck to just your main argument and not resorted to personal attacks.
You had valid points but your libertarian sterotyping and insult at the end casts a shadow of doubt on the credibility of your post.
Otherwise, I wholeheartedly agree with you.
Sometimes from what I've seen many 'christians' also confuse Calvary with Cavalry... sometimes I think they blend the meanings intentionally.
Again, IMHO, I find that when it comes to churches, the ones you have to watch out for are the ones that like to associate christ with the lion.

Actually he *won* the case... So I guess that makes him, by definition, a winner.

With all due respect any "elite" user is pretty abhorrent to be around...
I'm sure we all know a:
Mac Zealot
Microsft Apologist
Pompus Unix Geek
So hypothetically speaking, what's to stop a would be theif from scanning your card and then hitting an accept button without your knowledge?

Look at what SCO does to the Linux community.. fractures and bickering... Destroying something that was supposed to be moral and good for all.
One can almost feel the power of the ring at work....
