"Well, we're just gonna install all the spyware Windows 10 has onto your 7 or 8 systems, anyway, which the NSA can invade our computers for without a warrant, so no rational reason is stopping you from upgrading to 10 now!"
Actually, the U.S. firms may be missing a trick here; because the U.S. government charges a far higher rate of corporation tax than others do, U.S. companies are at a disadvantage. So it seems to make sense for the tech firms in the firing line to use this harassment as an excuse to move their domicile overseas... nothing to do with the tax advantages, honest! We're making a principled stand to resist government encroachment.
Both are principled stands against government encroachment. There seems to be some background assumption that whatever the tax rate is in a given country of operation, that that is a good and holy and proper amount, and that to try to get out from under it (as opposed to just whining about it) is unpatriotic and greedy. How dare you try to keep more of the money you earned!
The EU is doing nothing of the sort. This is frankenfood scare tactics. What they are actually doing is preventing better, cheaper products from reaching consumers.
Last time I checked, shelves were still crammed with bananas.
I saw no mention of double blinding in the taste test, to eliminate the placebo effect, notorious for affecting evaluation of alcohol, expensive audio cables vs. cheap, and StradIvarious violins vs. modern.
I'm not opposed this kind of movement, but I'm going to remain skeptical about its viability until the above two problems can be solved
This. We want "Big Pharma" inventing drugs. Expensive new drugs are better than none, which is the only real choice. We want government doing basic research, even though it is a fraction of private investment. We want tesing of folk remedies, and ass sweat from some monkey in South America, and some frog venom that wasn't discovered until three weeks ago.
The prime problem for humanity is, always has been, and continues to be, death. Not this or that right, or political system, or whatnot. Death. And the vast bulk of that is disease and natueal process.
"It wasn't reporting a steady stream of passwords, search terms, and just generally overheard words while listening for "Siri" back to Apple for passing through their corporate analysis and sales partitioning algorithms, and NSA's computers in those mysterious buildings whose costs rival the Apollo program and Manhattan project.
> In that case the residents of the other 49 states would like to talk to you about their cut.
Let's face it, in the past 15 years, New York, California, and Illinois would have pre-sold the profits rights out to companies for the next 99 years, and spent it already, as is done with things like turnpikes, prisons, and parks.
Current governments are so voracious to lavish money on voters they will sell off, in a few years, the multigenerational investments of decades, to re-claim the money and spend it. It got its start with the smoking settlement money, which ostensibly covered losses over decades due to government paying for smokers' medical care, but was spent in 2-3 years on stuff that had nothing to do with buttressing medical care, or anything else for that matter other than spending to buy votes.
There are some political scientists who view this not as a conflict of interest, or even a problem, but a glorious feature.
That's 2% per year, whether you earn money or not. Sales tax comes off of actual transactions. So, too, income tax is directly related to actual transactions (work for money).
I've always had a problem with property taxes -- I understand the fireman and police issues, but I don't like having to buy your freedom each year.
In studying lack of sleep, they should have more carefully studied the snotlike liquid found in the beds of people who woke up several times per night, before concluding they had colds.

This has literally nothing to do with news for nerds.
Normal eggs? Nope.

Corruption, legal or otherwise? Nope.
Technically, all posts are off-topic in this thread.
The rest of the world owes the US some $200 trillion for inventions over the years, as we invent half the stuff that is invented.
The reason they suck is because they do not do things like we do.
I can pop open the zipper, and close it back up and you will never know.
If you pop open my zipper, you will know!

Apparently a downmodder does like me having to buy my freedom for my house every year, or have it seized.
"Explain, please."

Also, 6 more salmon a year you can trap in a river with a net!
