  1. Re:Most disturbing..... on Darwin Evolving Into A Tricky Exhibit · · Score: 1

Culture? Or just governments? Yes, the Greek government collapsed, but the, well, I guess the culture went with it, to be rediscovered later.

The Roman empire collapsed and, well, I guess that went with it, too. A pope a thousand years later made a grotesquely inferior aquaduct system; the Colliseum was raided for wood to build some of the stuff at the Vatican, etc. etc. etc. So I guess that's a bad example, too. Current Italians aren't the Romans.

Egypt, well, I guess that's like Rome but even longer ago.

So I guess this is correct.

Well, once the government turns from keeping the trade routes open to lording and taxing its own people until no one moves much, well... ...but I didn't mean modern society! No sir, modern society'll get it right with 60k+ laws you must obey, and tax rates that make the most evil pharoah look positively benign.

Nope, I'm sure our society won't perish because we've got it down pat keeping things moving with the trade routes squashed and government intervention ("lording") at a high.

Nothing to see here, move along, move along...

In the book, the aliens tell her that there are encodings in certain transcendental numbers like pi, that, statistically, should not be there. These are similar to the aliens' message to Earth itself, but obviously, those messages must have been placed by whoever created reality. So Ellie writes a computer program that scans for it, and finally does, and is vindicated.

They couldn't waste such time like that in the movie, to say nothing of the technical talk about it, so they just came up with some less-obvious proof of her journey.

I played for a good 6-8 months as a dancer/pistoleer. Yeah, pistoleer sucked, but I wasn't in it for the combat, anyway. Eventually the dancing got tired (loved the outfits, too!) and left. This was two months after the Jump to Lightspeed, which I refused to buy.

As a casual player (read no more than 20 hours a week) I was never gonna unlock the Jedi slot, and even if I did, the astounding amounts of grinding required for little return (had buddies who bragged of soloing a Jedi player -- I thought they were supposed to be able to take on 2-3 other players?) would have prevented me from getting much progress.

I may actually re-activate again just to try the Jedi slot (may dump my dancer's points into it in a respec, if that's possible). Yeah, I heard the Jedi are even wimpier now, no more powerful than any other melee class, but I guess I can fantasize I have power, even if I end up like the green Twilek Jedi chick in Revenge of the Sith, cut down easily by regular troops.
