Ignoring the bitchy nonsense, I'm genuinely curious what you're referring to with this comment. What particular head of state did he mistakenly expect to welcome him with arms wide open?

I think I'd have to agree though, looking on Microsoft's website, I don't see many features that justify upgrading, especially for non-business users. There's some nifty new colaboration features, but I don't think too many people actually use those.
Pretty much, Microsoft is its own worst enemy. They've implemented just about everything necessary, so its harder and harder for people to justify upgrading. Now, it seems the biggest feature of Office 2007 is a new UI. Whether its actually more useful than the old version, or MS is just redesigning it to have something to sell, I don't know yet. I certainly don't see much else listed for features, though.
Bioware may not be developing it, but at least they're involved:
Greg Zeschuk: BioWare is providing the BioWare Aurora Engine to Obsidian to help build Neverwinter Nights 2. We're also providing technical support on the engine, as well as design advice. We're advising on the project so that the original vision of the game is passed on to the new team. We've got a good relationship with the folks at Obsidian and we definitely want to see them succeed in making Neverwinter Nights 2 a great game; we see it - in part at least - as still being a BioWare project.
Ray Muzyka: We're working closely with Atari and Obsidian as the game progresses and, at their request, we'll be assessing the game's progress with Atari as it moves along.
I've never had any issue replacing the crappy OS installation my laptops shipped with with my own basic Windows installation. Visiting the manufacturers' website to download drivers is a "fool's errand" and you'll spend "a long time looking for drivers"? Any reputable manufacturer has a download page for all the hardware that could possibly be in your laptop! Downloading the drivers is hardly the ordeal you make it out to be. And when you're putting a newer OS on older hardware, I've typically found it detects and installs drivers for more pieces of hardware than the OS that shipped with the machine.
Why anyone would suggest those restore CDs is beyond me. The whole point of installing the OS myself is so I don't have to put up with all the bloated crap most vendors want to ship.
The problem isn't that Windows XP ships with only the most common drivers, it's that Windows XP shipped 5 years ago. There's obviously been A LOT of hardware released since then. The Linux fanboys usually conveniently leave that little tidbit out though, and then claim Linux has better driver support.
I have a Panasonic 50" DLP (PT-50DL54), which has an 8 segment colour wheel - its not as noticeable as the 6 segment colour wheel (I've never noticed it at all).
A further comment claimed that in America, companies have the right to lay you off, and stop your pay -tomorrow-
It varies state-to-state, but many are at-will. In Michigan, for example, the following applies:
In Michigan, employees are presumed to be "at will." At-will employees may be terminated for any reason, so long as it's not illegal. Generally, employees who work under an employment contract can only be terminated for reasons specified in the contract. In Michigan, in order to overcome the at-will presumption, an employee must show that the employer made clear and unequivocal statements of job security to the employee.
It's pretty easy to get rid of someone. I'm not sure if the same rules would apply to a mass-layoff like the one affecting Rockstar Vienna right now, though.
Actually, I believe there are several schools that offer Mac's to their students. Especially for graphic design type courses - not everyone who needs a laptop is a CS major. Not to mention the price of Apple laptops have been pretty close to the price of Wintel laptops.
Fuck man, the damn thing won't even run Visual Studio!
However, Free Software, and Open Source software for that matter, would have died long ago if Stallman had not been defending it
Right, because projects like these would have never been developed were it not for RMS.
Stallman may have done some things to advance Free Software and Open Source, but to claim he is solely responsible is ludicrous.

This one.
I could feed myself and three girlfriends
You stud.
I didn't know ASUS was a "no-name company"
Why would you ever upgrade a word processor?
:)

Nah, it sounds like their project is much farther along than DNF.
Why oh why has slashdot forsaking the BSD section?

Chances are, it won't suck.

Is it too much to ask that editors actually proof-read submissions, maybe run a spellcheck on them?

Except Jobs isn't taking the CEO position at Disney. Effectively, he'll only manage Apple once the merger is complete.
Linux is a Ferrari? This is the worst analogy EVER.

This Canadian geek doesn't. Of course, this one also works in the US, and has seen a significant pay cut in the past year :(
You're right, I forgot all about the old Duos. Maybe that's why the name sounded so nice.. :)
Why? The PowerBook name predates Apple's use of PowerPC processors. I think PowerBook Duo would've been just fine.

It won't?
They couldn't have delivered your TV?
Wow.. I thought Seattle was cooler than that.
I only wish I were as young as you claim me to be :)
So Apple has always maintained that their computers are NOT personal computers.
Oh really? At the bottom of every Apple press release is this little blurb:
Apple ignited the personal computer revolution in the 1970s with the Apple II and reinvented the personal computer in the 1980s with the Macintosh.
Not only does Apple claim their computers are "personal computers", they claim to have practically INVENTED the PC.
It is? Could've fooled me.
