it's amazing to me that the MacWorld people would even charge Apple for booth space and all
it's like charging a fee on god for having churches

that's the problem that has to be avoided, unfortunately...
it seems to me (casual programmer in perl and C) that it wouldnt be difficult to just correct the punctuation up to the end of the TLD, and not try to re-write the url any more than necessary
many of the servers that i've been a part of building don't have a 'www' alias because they were MEANT to be under the radar of casual surfers

no, i know what code bloat comes from
I, however, don't see 'code bloat' as being a plausible excuse to not implement a useful feature
however, since i bought my xbox the first day they came out (pre-ordered) i'm now just looking for a place to buy a modchip since lik-sang shut down to run linux on it
and i await the day i can have netBSD on there, for that will be dubbed 'dedicated server day' worldwide:)
I'd suggest the topic of a previous slashdot thread to explain the differences and strengths/weaknesses of FreeBSD vs. Linux vs. everything else
ExtremeTech Article
but for my 2 cents, i love FreeBSD...I tried Linux and after using BSD in my old job I realized it's a much smarter, well thought out OS
when i'm walking around with it and i play on of thoes "smart" playlists (My Top Rated, 25 most listened to, etc.) it won't even get through the first song before the audio stops, the display hangs, and the ipod hard locks
i have to manually reset it every time this happens...but other playlists and listening to just straight albums doesnt do this....pisses me off
a few things about your post that I found interesting:
-NO kit has been avaliable for chatting online with console opponents for the most part, besides Dreamcast gear (this doesn't count Roger Wilco)
-I see no problem scaling up the service. Not only does Microsoft have four, count'em FOUR data centers, but I read a while back that these data centers have almost double the capacity that microsoft.com has for all its traffic..that's a buttload, and if XBoxes keep selling at their current numbers (read: low volume) then I think this will NEVER be a problem;)

prices will be $50 for the starter kit which includes:
- Headset and plugin for your controller - Free game to play right out of the box - One year of XBox Live play - Possibly a memory card
that's the price for any new release game on ANY platform, so I don't see that as too bad...I'll pick one up for my XBox when It officially launches
thanks for the suggestion! I tried Mozilla when they had their first big "release" and was less than impressed. Phoenix, however, is a great browser in the first 10 minutes that I've been using it (downloaded it on your recommendation)
It's exactly what I need on my windows box: a BROWSER nothing more. Pages load fast and look just as good as they do when opened in IE.
I do most of my browsing on my iBook anyway and Apple Mail is for all of my mail accounts so this works perfectly! Thanks!

here's something to try:
:)
go to the x10 website in phoenix and select to block the images on the frontpage...continue on to the main page.....
aaah, text only browsing
hey, I love phoenix...small compact, browser that works good, but there is one feature that I STILL don't understand why it isn't implemented:
correcting a URL when I accidentally type in www, cnn, com instead of www.cnn.com
how hard it it to see the damn commas and change them to periods?
Somebody using sleazy methods to sell their products that ISN'T Microsoft!
......zoom!
runs hand above head in the air.....
it's good to see this happening so quickly
:)

yes, i just updated and nothing changed that I notice really
still I was using 1.2, and now i'm at 1.2.1
an update is an update, i wonder why they didn't make a big deal about 1.2.1 for the iPod, Apple usually makes a big fuss about their x.x.n updates
my darned ipod has areally annoying bug
when i'm walking around with it and i play on of thoes "smart" playlists (My Top Rated, 25 most listened to, etc.) it won't even get through the first song before the audio stops, the display hangs, and the ipod hard locks

now i have this urge to mod out the old UNIVAC that I have out back in the garage
negative
/. we should know that MS will prolly have a clause in their Holy EULA about it
people don't sue the phone company if somebody calls you up and vents their frustrations over the line
if we've learned anything from reading
"You say it, it's your business"
and you still have the ability to block users and what you hear from them....if somebody was really really bad then MS could just kick-ban them
i can't wait till my first voice chat orgy
:(
until I find out that it's me and 7 10yr old boys
ok, i'll admit, dreamcast was a good system, but everytime that i played the damn things i found the controllers to be horrendous
too hard, missshaped, and the analog stick was too loose
gamespy already does it...it's cool and works REALLY good
Check out Gamespy Tunnel, basically it takes up to 4 Xboxes over the net and fools them into thinking they are all on the same network
Need some flavour of windows, the gamespy tunnel app, gamespy arcade, and some type of home network

i wish I could "wrap up and go home for the year" in early October
but being in the UT system as a student, Microsoft has a kickass licensing deal with all UT schools
:(
i bought my copy of Office.X for $5.00 + tax
bought winXP for $5.00 + tax
bought OfficeXP for $15.00 + tax
but they only let each student buy one copy

EVERYONE should try this out!
don't forget, though, that at Quakecon this year Carmack said himself that Doom 3 was written to take advantage of GeForce 3-level technology
makes me happy for a year or two
but I still can't argue with the tournament machines at QC idiling around 350fps...that was amazing
it says that it runs realONE for video playback
never seen that application of real's coftware yet
clear up for me what DRM is and why these companies want me to get in with it
thanks
because lots of people (like me) prefer to use a mac after we discovered how great they actually run
it's not our fault that the only provider of hardware to run the OS charges really high prices
