Actually, I always thought their *storage* was in quads, kind of like our bits, but just base 4 instead of base 2 (one quad = 2 bits). I could be totally making that up though.
No, you are wrong, and he is correct. You do not understand the DMCA. Under the provisions of the DMCA you cannot be held legally responsible for copyright infringement if you are a carrier (e.g. ISP, or a site like YouTube), but you can be held responsible for taking it down. So these "takedown notices" are not threatening or anything like that, they are basically just routine bureaucracy that will cause YouTube no problem at all if they comply.
These sites cannot be "shut down" under the DMCA, any more than an ISP can for infringements of its users, as long as they are responsible in removing infringing content.
Yeah, it's true. Being drunk makes your body limp and loose and able to handle high impact speeds much better than sober people. Very often drunk people kill everyone in the other car but they are fine. Maybe getting drunk (for passengers only) would be a good safety feature on a car.
I don't think the shortest path explanations are "dumb". Considering that the Millenium Falcon went through hyperspace, it might involve real skill to find the shortest path. I don't necessarily think that is what George Lucas meant, but I do think the explanation works perfectly.
Most Americans have to drive a LOT more just to get to work and take care of basic errands. That is because our entire city structure (suburban sprawl) was based on the presumption of cheap gas, and now we are getting screwed. Europeans don't need to spend as much money on gas as Americans do.
Unfortunately, (at least in theory) going to Piratebay and getting your music for free will land you in jail. It is against the law. The fact that you can do that is only a loophole in the system that will probably be closed. You have no rights.
Intelligent design (or rather, just the belief in God, and his necessity in creating our universe as it is) doesn't even have to suggest that some mutations were encouraged. There is the fact that the rules of the universe, (e.g. the relative strengths of gravity, electromagnetic, weak and strong nuclear forces, the cosmological constant, etc.) seems to be very finely tuned to produce life, and if those rules were any different, the universe would be undifferentiated mush. So maybe God "intelligently designed" the universe with such finely tuned rules, but evolution played out on its own with no intervention based on those perfectly tuned rules.
I think he meant the end products are lighter than the sum of the inputs. And that would be true, since the energy comes from mass, so there would have to be a decrease in mass (a.k.a. "lighter") in order for energy to be released.
Yes I agree. There is nothing particularly special about the Firefox browser. On my computer it seems to have a hard time with a lot of media files like quicktime or whatnot. What makes Firefox so awesome is the extensions:
mouse gestures + tabs makes me a webbrowsing kung fu ninja. Even tabs alone is nothing special, imo, but with mouse gestures it becomes really really useful. I love greasemonkey+platypus (which lets you edit any webpage in anyway you want), adblock, bugmenot extension (which automatically fills in newspaper login forms with a simple right click), plus all the little things, like a "Go Up" button (looks like the back and forward buttons, but points upward and brings you up a directory. Google toolbar has a similar feature), "resizable text area" which lets you resize any text input box by dragging on the corner, and tons of other little things that make firefox infinitely more usable.
If I try going to IE with my webbrowsing habits and the extensions I use in Firefox, it is an incredibly painful experience.
Why is it not possible in the case of nukes, but possible in the case of software patents? You say it's possible to put an end to software patents, why don't you tell us how that is possible.
yeah that site is pretty cool, my home phone number spells out a single 7 letter word....pretty rare though. I find for most numbers it just spits out garbage that is harder to remember than 7 digits.
I used tvtome for a while and it's pretty much still there, it's just been very redesigned (and now it's called and points to tv.com). CNET bought tvtome a while ago, and it seems like the information is the same, though I definitely do not like the new layout...too flashy. But anyway yeah...
I was one of those unique players, and I just have to say, I agree with the post you're replying to. Halo 2 was a mess. It sucked ass. I'm referring to single player. Multiplayer on the other hand is a lot of fun, and I'm not denying that, but I think he was referring to Halo as a story, considering this article is about a Halo movie, not another Halo videogame.
But yes, in campaign mode, both the story and the gameplay of Halo 2 really really sucked

Let me just jump in here for a second.

The single player campaign mode was definitely rushed. And by rushed, I mean it sucked.

Then what did you mean by "us visualizers"??

Hey, m50d, it's bad form to reply to your own post, especially when you're pretending to be someone else.
Yes you are very special. You are among a very elite few who is able to visualize that scene. Congratulations are you unmatched intelligence.
Yes, and to satisfy that desire it was necessary to assume it would be affordable.
Actually, Bush was elected zero times. Katherine Harris elected him the first time, and Diebold elected him the second time.

I find your comment to be contradictory. If you are on big on animal rights why do you hate pets because it is cruel?

actually, it's MPEG1 layer 3

I believe you mean "rectangular prism". Rectangle would be the pythagorean in 2D space.
There were no "alien bits" I have no clue what you're talking about.

turns out a week is actually several days (seven, to be exact)
