I lived 22 years with an alcoholic, who preached the program, dragged others he deemed as 'drunks' and went from alcohol to prescrption pills. AA and other programs cannot help you stay clean. Only you can do that. AA is a crutch for the weak. Those weak people accept that 'God' will help them make it all right. As a victim of alcoholism, and drug abuse, I can tell you that it's a crock of horsecrap. not once have I received a "Sorry for never being there, son." or "Sorry for pushing you down the stairs, causing you to crack your head open and get a bunch of stitches when you were three years old."
Now, the same junkie is trying to pull the same things with my own kids.
The fact that AA is HEAVILY christian-based makes it a pseudo-religious group with ties to one of the most evil religions. How can something good come from a union of evl?
If you have a friend with a problem, you can try to help them, but if they don't want help, leave them to their own devices. When they come crawling back, you may or may not assist, depending on how you feel.
Smart move not to charge. It limits their responsibility towards that product. When it does eventually collapse in upon itself, people can feel mad, but they can't feel ripped off, like I felt when I bought every iteration of Windows from 3.1 to 2000, and especially with ME.
I write cde for small clients. I make a point to deliver the product and insist on the client doing a full test on it before payment is received. Upon payment, the client receives the source as well as the final.
I am the exception, not the rule. Most coders out there slam it out and push for payment right away.
I never have to go drum up business. My policies keep them coming back.
Magic Sand. It was available at Toys R Us many years ago (though its origins are much more obscure), and Santa knew what it was really good for. Magic Sand creates a time bubble around its target, i.e., Santa's sleigh and those eight feisty reindeer. Time goes by for everyone else, but santa travels 3600x faster than us, give or take 5% for anomolies.
Has anyone here been to a Sony Store before? I, unfortunately have had the displeasure of travelling to the black pit of despair. Let me paint the picture.
Imagine walking into a store where all the employees are standing around, playing with their PDA's, or with the PS2 display. You walk in and no one notices, or cares. The employees keep doing what they are doing and you browse for a half hour. In that time no one asks if you need assistance. You look at their digital camera display, wondering which camera would be best for you. There's no way to tell because their all under glass, so getting a feel for them is out.
After 45 minutes of browsing without any assistance, you've decided which camera to buy, but no one wants to help you take the product home (i.e., take your money and give you the camera.) You stand at the counter, watching the employees chat about and do nothing. No one comes to take your money so you leave and buy the camera at Best Buy.
Think this is an exageration? Think again. This has happened to me. I've tried to buy T.V.s, cameras, a PS2, and a PDA. I've had this experience in 3 different Sony Stores. I seriously doubt Best Buy has anything to worry about.
Never relent! Once you give in to the video games, then the weekend poker nights are next, then goes the yearly fishing trip. Once all the fun has been sucked from the relationship (i.e., gaming), you will think macrome is entertainment, and argue over which chick flick to rent.
If I drive the commuter train, am I an Engineer?

it's only legal because they bought 19.9%. Anymore than that, and they need to provide in writing, their intentions.
I think we'll hear about some greenmail between EA and Ubi.

It's hard to believe Dungeons and Dragons is a little older than Pascal.

Linux, since Mac is for kids.
-- What happens when I build a 50 ft Macintosh?
-- You get a Big Mac.
*waits for Apple and McDonald's lawsuits.*
I have found that my logitech USB-to-PS/2 converters work well. I have yet to try anything else.

Never relent. Be strong.
I'll take at least 2.
Books are great! I spend so much time in front of a screen it's a welcome relief to get some analog time with some good paper products.
