In the (greedy) eyes of the law, quite possibly. Sure, your brother just repaid that loan, but sadly that doesn't mean that the cops won't seize that cash until you convince a judge that you're not a drug dealer. "Asset forfeiture" hits crooks and innocent people alike. I don't like it either, but try convincing your legislator and you'll just get some crap about "balancing liberty with the need to stop drugs, mmmkay?"

10-15 years ago I also wrote some POS software and it opened my eyes to the way many cash businesses operate. I was asked specifically to add by many of the businesses to add a "reduction feature" which I politely refused to do I would say 80% of potential sales were lost for this one reason. On competitor software they often demonstrated this feature would delete a percentage of completed cash transaction before the End of Month commit and rollover so auditing the data would show nothing this was so pervasive the owners of a franchise with at the time 350 + franchisees also requested it

On the other hand business who bought and used my software found much of their income was being fudged by employees usually through cancelled transactions. When a customer pulls out cash and says no receipt necessary the transaction is cancelled an the cash pocketed.

The line is where it's always been: you buy the product, it's yours, you can do whatever you like with it. It's unreasonable for a manufacturer to try to take those rights away from you.

No the manufacturer sold it to you "as is" and "fit for purpose" if you want to do something else with it either buy a product that does what you want or go make it yourself. I personally don't like "restricted-boot" so I don't buy a product that has it - exception if the product is well designed and needs no modification

    Insurance needs fear to sell.

It used to be rational fear e.g. you might have a car accident that turns out to be expensive to repair and pay for damages. However here is a fear that is irrational Climate change the climate always changes, day to day , year to year, century to century. And the difficulty will be was the damages caused by climate change or were you in a flood zone anyway. and fearful governments afraid of being sued are complicit in this. A recent example I have is a local council declaring a flood zone in an area that would only flood if sea levels rose 2-3 metres insurance companies without question simply rose all premiums in the area $3000 -$7000 if you wanted flood insurance. It did have an effect as people in this area were generally concerned about climate change now many I spoke to have seen the money maker it really is

Patrick Moore inspired many children (I still have some of his astronomy books). I have seen people who became doctors after being inspired by watching a doctor save a loved one, another become an electrician after listening to adult electrician passionately talk about his work.
