I enjoyed watching my nephew progress with language as well. An English teacher in high school made a great point one that is stupidly simple but easy to misunderstand. She said wait until you here the child that is just learning to speak and say something like "runned" instead of ran. That means they are starting to get the concept of tense and working or grammar but haven't mastered the small points. The reason "runned"shows they are experimenting is because no one ever says "runned", they came put different pieces together to try to form the correct tense, of course it's wrong but because they never heard it you can be sure they aren't just imitating what they here.
While I applaud the effort of the XPrize contestants and winner I think were getting a little ahead of ourselves. It was historic yes but was it really that ground breaking? I don't think the folks at NASA are worrying about "who's going to be last out the door has to shut off the lights" just yet. I think government space agencies will continue to be the giants for a while to come and private enterprises will be standing on there shoulders. Think of all the money that our government has spent to get information that scaled composites used to do their thing. NASA has put a men on the moon and brought them home, scaled composites barely got out of the atmosphere.
Maybe NASA realizes that the space shuttle is old, based on old technology and old agendas that it had a hard time living up to. My father said that when they were starting the shuttle program they were saying something about a launch every couple of weeks or something insane like that.
I use SUSE at home and I enjoy it, that said I don't see how this posting is -1 troll.
This kind of crap on/. needs to be fixed or it will stop being such a great site. You have all the tin foil hat people that say how they fear any new technology becuase it will be an invasion of privcay. You have the people that start yelling about teh goverments actions before the even read the article and you have the we hate microsoft so much we willmod posts that are citical of linux to -1 troll. It's getting crowded here.
about 75% of the other garbage on the airwaves is not of value. & Broadcasting something that 70-80% of the public at large finds patently offensive does not serve the public interest.
I don't suppose you would mind giving a reference to a reputable source to your numbers would you?
As for me, It serves my interest, being stuck in DC rush hours traffic in the morning would be exacerbated if Howard Stern wasn't on the air.
I don't think "driving" is the right word. Driving implies a sence of trying to get to a destination, the people here in DC are wrecking, which is the act of looking for a way to be involved in an accident.
After RTFA he talks about how pc's need to be under $100, he talks about how they need to do this in contries such as India where there are 5x as many hotmail accounts than PC largly do to internet cafe's.
He's not talking about piracy at all, He wants more money by having everyone in these countries buying a PC. Think of how much miney they are losing because many people use 1 pc. Piracy my arse. He's trying to make more money.
Then there's Daytona Bike Week. Arrrgggghhhh... That's the cry of a man from Daytona if I ever heard it, I know I've said that many o'time.
I think the whole loud pipes thing is bullshit esp. when you see them weaving in and out of traffic making three lanes where there are only two, etc. I lived there I saw it all. Then you have them fight to get helmet laws repealed in the state and some how they get it. If they were worried about protecting themselves you think the first thing you would do is protect your melon. F the bikers and their loud pipes.
I am not a police office but I know there have to be laws for excessively loud pipes. Probably disturbing the peace or some crap like that. I'll ask my father.
In closing the best time of my life was living in Virginia during bike week and knowing that I wouldn't have to deal with it again.
I don't know how I seem to not have a problem with spam like every one else does. It's simple any place that asks for an email address that you would rather not give them, use a hotmail account that you don't care about, a simple few letter account. I often let my account expire and just go back and reestablish it when I need to get QuickTime or real player again. In my other accounts that I don't give out liberally I maybe get 1 or two spam letters a week... What do you people do that get 100's of spam letters a day?
I think it comes down to being socially responsible, remember the story posted a while ago on/. about posting incorrect articles on wikipedia that were not removed or caught until the author removed them. I think this is similar in nature.
As a side note I had a friend that worked at a convenience store and would knowingly give false directions to people because he got tired of doing it all day.
But these people your talking to at Dell are CSR's right, I mean even in the states CSR's aren't exactly at the top of the IT pyramid right. CSR's are not developers by any since. The Indians devs that I work with state side, while having an accent are understandable when you get used to it.
I can't believe that 1 out of 5 CDs are sold in Walmarts. I saw the typical teenybopper crap but nothing that I would consider new and exciting. This is the same demographic that made Titanic the box office "phenom" that it was.
I wasn't finding anything by developing and independent artists I don't think the masses of America buy stuff by developing and inde artists. So I can see how 1 in 5 are sold at walmart. see your quote below to reinforce that many people buy music from walmart. it's just usually a mess and full of people.
What we need is a way to chart what editor posts the most dupes, maybe the social shamming thing that keeps crime low in countries other than the US would work well here.
Couldn't agree more, but reading the comments it seems to me that some people have crossed the line from cautious to full blown paranoia. You right though with your B&N bit rfid will certainly make some things a lot easier. Some people here just don't want to hear it. They read RFID and they go crazy.
Or worse, knowing my name/address, you could construct a pretty convincing fake ID with your picture on it. I'm sorry but what stops me from doing that now?
The cynical side of me prays for the day when the tin foil hat crowd is proven right, at least then they will be rounded up and disappeared. Then I can go back to reading news in peace with out every nut coming out of the woodwork to say how technology X can be abused.
Any technology can be and has been abused. I think we have gotten caught up in the tech is bad routine. Contrary to popular/. belief these people making these systems are not drooling boobs that wear diapers. I'm sure they are working on mitigations plans to stop abuses. Just like the EFTA (Electronic Fund Transfer Act) to get money back if someone uses your check/credit card.
I hate to tell you all this but this is the direction things are going, sitting here and moaning isn't going to help, if you don't like it fight it. Donate to the ACLU.
"A few thousand machetes in the hands of an army in Africa can lead to mass genocide," writes Howard Stacy of Atlanta, Georgia.
Why do people think that they live in a vacume, your actions effect others around in drastic way, you can't go around willy nilly doing as you please.
How exactly is a regulation going to stop a rocket from hitting your bedroom again? Maybe by saying you can't launch with in X miles of a residental area. Maybe by saying taht it has to pass some inspection so that control surfaces won't fall off mid flight, maybe by approving flight trajactores. Shall I go on?
So it's okay for the same accident to happen a few times, it's okay for people to die few times in the same accident, instead of them dieing once and haveing safegaurd to ensure that it won't happen again?

The folks who modded it down recognized that the article linked had nothing to do with suse 9.2
So then the mods should have went with offtopic....

See this game is actually promoting good health. Almost balances out all the wanton death and destruction...

What?!?! Granny upskirts?
Ewwww gross!
Oh wait grainy upskirts.... Nevermind
ambitious new programme to search for extra terrestial life.
I think any program to search for ET is ambitious.
Stupidvideos.com has a few of his more memerable moments.
Developers this one is even better the name is "Steve Balmer Goes Ape". They also have the Gates get pied and a great public BSOD with Gates on CNN.

I agree TightVNC is what I'm using to pwn your box right now and the video looks fine.
All joking aside tightVNC is a great app thats what I used in college and I was happy to find thats what my job uses.

Wait a second there is radiation in space?!?! /calls to the rocket scientists in the other cubes.
Awe nuts.
Guys I think we have a problem.
What we need is a way to chart what editor posts the most dupes, maybe the social shamming thing that keeps crime low in countries other than the US would work well here.
Thats why you should define it once they use the acronym from then on out.
for example:
Oh my god(OMG) it's 6:30pm on a friday. Why am I still here. OMG my boss just gave me more stuff to do.

Just a small point, if your reading it on your screen it doesn't have to be plain text. It oculd be an picture of text.
Why do people think that they live in a vacume, your actions effect others around in drastic way, you can't go around willy nilly doing as you please.
