I would imagine that an athlete wishing to gain the greatest amount of benefit would simply 'crank it up' to the maximum volume that their body could physically handle. Or is the fastest it can go even beneficial?
Either way, we'd be bound to see some awesome breakdowns in the 100 meter sprint, or even on the football field.
I'd be interestecd in hearing how well it performs overall in testing.
Assuming it performs well, it will also be interesting to see if future athletes will have a built-in artificial heart-beat to pass performance enhancing tests.
Are you familiar with (forgive my spelling, I am not medically-inclined) Sharko-Marie-Toothe, or Tapetoe Retinal Degeneration?
If so, I'd like to hear your input on these fairly rare conditions. Barring that, are there any places I can search online for insight into their details?
Have you considered building your own? That way you can still have Replay-like services with the ability to use it with Cable or Dish or Directv. In addition, you can also share it out over your LAN at home or over the internet. Pause for as long as your hard drive hold out. In short, in my experience building-your-own has almost the same functionality with more flexibility.
Just as an aside, I do also have a DirecTivo, and have never really had issues. I would have been interested in networking it, but the card was over $100 and the resulting file would have still been in propriatary format. With my current PC PVR, I can share the recording out via automatically-updated HTML scripts. Just a click on another PC and I'm watching.
You may know about these already, but they make external enclosures for your hard drives that A. don't sacrafice performance and B. are likely better cooled than your case will be, what with all that heat-producing stuff you've got stuffed in it.
Here's an example, though your milage may vary: http://store.yahoo.com/drivecase/quaddriven2.html
Nice. Except that they now have a real and viable reason for following/'getting' you, and now that you've damaged their car and they've (supposedly) done nothing to you...*you* are now the one that the cops are after.
Question: Do you connect this box to just one TV, or can you stream content to other TVs across your LAN? If you stream, does MythTV stream or so you use another solution?
I've already got a Houppauge 350, but don't want to buy one for every TV I have. I've just started looking at VideoLAN for streaming, and am still trying to get it to work.
"What are you, "most users" or a slashdot geek?:)"
With a young wife and two (really) young kids, I'd have to say that in my head, I'm a 'slashdot geek', but in my wallet (opens wallet and moths flutter out) I haven't the budget of even 'most people'. *grin*
I'm not that interested in using it in a car (though it is an intriguing thought for a car MP3 player) but would like to keep a really small footprint by limiting the size of the power supply.
Good idea with the thumb drive: Why not have it boot from the USB 2.0 slot? That's 512 meg right there, which should be enough for an OS and associated media player.

Interesting. I really didn't know that you could playback a DVD on a processor from that generation.
Maybe I should rethink my home-entertainment plans in regards to video!
Not sure you can play a DVD with a PII 300mhz chip...
I've had my Ipaq for a little over 2 years and have never dropped it. I'm glad I haven't.
:)
That said, maybe you should see a doctor, fumble-fingers.
I looked up 'fnarr' on wiki and it didn't return any results.
So what's it mean?
In my opinion, It's so your gaming experience will increase when you can afford today's hottest cards 18 months from now.
And yeah, the x800 is right around $400. But the 6800 Ultra is only $389!

Humously. I like it!

Just so I'm clear: You can stream content from network-attached storage to this device? If so, can you stream a ripped DVD (ISO file) to this device?
A subsidiary of the company I work for, Sempra Fiberlinks runs fiber through natural gas lines for a 'last mile' solution.
Of course, residing in a densely populated area would help as well.
I take it all back. I didn't realize that PCIx is not the same as PCI Express.
Sorry, all.
Don't write that check yet. It'll likely be some time before any game is written that can take advantage of PCI Express's bandwidth.
Take a look at reviews on TomsHardware.com regarding AGP vs. PCI-X.

What kind of power supply do these things take?

Exactly.
Tha parent AC poster seems to have his facts mixed up.
Would a 'guaranteed moron' have managed to give you the right answer?
From the AC a few posts above you:
Visit lex.com.tw and buy a mini-itx with 4 wired network ports and 2 wireless network ports. Oh, and order Gigbit LAN if you want it.
Want one with 4 physical video in or 16 time sliced video in? You got it.
